we still only scored 20pts having to pull off a miracle to win. I definitely not a bandwagoner.. but I can't help but feel I'm getting beat up in the back of bus though. Like our 4-2 start last year.. by record it was great.. but if you watched the games.. you know we were'nt winning giving up 400ypg through the air. Our offense was good enough to bail us out some of those games. If they don't figure this out quick.. afraid it's too close to the playoffs to start changing up things now. Our defense is going to have to hope to give up less than 20pts a game and our offense to stop giving up turnovers.
Our analyses seem almost identical; so, of course, I agree. Do you see any adjustments that can stop the bleeding? I really don't think a QB change will do much, but it might be worth a try. Getting Wade back will help. If they lose to the Titans, well it's over.
Don't lose faith! At least not yet. <a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/hoy_en_la_revolucion/6559970455/" title=" The 2011 Houston Texans -the battlefight- by *The last son of krypton*, on Flickr"><img src="http://farm8.staticflickr.com/7016/6559970455_b527c3c285_b.jpg" width="949" height="544" alt=" The 2011 Houston Texans -the battlefight-"></a>
In the present configuration the Texans throw the ball about as well as a Air Force. On any half-assed NFL team, Yates would hold a clipboard, Jacoby Jones would just return punts and Kevin Walter would be a pretty good #3.
Still not that concerned as devastaing a loss as that was. We still have no less of a chance at winning a playoff game or two than we did two games ago, and that was all I was hoping for in the playoffs. Did you all really think we were not going to miss a beat with a rookie QB? We're still going to go as far as our running game and defense takes us. And I know one man who is going to help that running game AND give TJ Yates much more to work with: Spoiler If nothing else this has proved who our MVP is. Get those hammies ready to go, Dre. We're a totally different offense with him. Right now we have nobody that can strike fear into a secondary and thus TJ has little to work with. Having Wade back won't hurt either. I don't think it's a coincidence that our defense gave up unusual point totals compared to the competition these last two weeks. One major concern I have is Arian Foster fumbling. Why is he not using the tried and true 3-point technique to hold the ball?
Yeah, let's not close shop for the season just yet. Getting AJ and Wade back will both be mighty beneficial, and don't forget - the first playoff game will be in front a hungry, raucous crowd, and against a likely good, but not great, opponent. I don't think it's hopeless just yet.
You made me feel a little better, not much, but a little. That was one of the biggest sports downers ever. Sort of like the UH/Notre Dame Cotten Bowl and the Buffalo/Oilers game, and most recently, the UH/S.Miss disaster. Real bummers all.
Dude... I know it wasn't fun but... it was ultimately a pretty meaningless regular season game. It didn't cost us a spot in the playoffs; it didn't even technically cost us a 1 or 2 seed. We'll need help - but we would have needed help even with a win.
I think the "symbolic" issues were the thing, like never winning in Indy, setting a negative NFL record (shades of Buffalo), losing on the last play (multiple Texan's bad memories), sucking on national tv, etc. It will become all good if they beat the Titans and win at least one playoff game. If they tank and don't win another game, super downer, season ends in the toilet.
I think our chances of winning a play off game is just as good as it is for any of the teams slotted to play Wild-Card weekend. Sure we've got our problems, but so do they. The five seed, Pittsburgh (maybe Baltimore) may be the toughest team that weekend, & we don't have to play them until possibly the AFC Championship game. The Bengals are leading the race for the sixth seed, followed by the Jets, Raiders/Broncos, & Tennessee. I think we'll be ok.
Playoffs. We're in them. By the looks of this forum you'd think we have a bad team. AFC South champs, #3 seed. It was a bad loss. It happens. Calm down.
Actually it was two bad losses, I almost entirely wrote off the Carolina game. It was a letdown waiting to happen. But the Colts game was terrifying. It was like being a time machine to last year. The colts defense is abysmal, yet we only put 6 legit points on the board. Our TD was giftwrapped and so was that last FG. And on top of than, Dan freaking Orlovsky was having success through the air. I'm still stoked about my playoff game. But unless we show well against the Titans, its hard to feel any realistic expectations. Kinda like when the Rockets played the Lakers after Yao went out. We still pushed them, but never really felt like we had a chance. The whole series just felt different. I'm still gonna cheer my ass off, but I don't really feel we have a chance. I did after the Bengals game, but not now. We can certainly win that 1st rd gm, maybe more who knows.
If TJ Yates started this year and got us this 10-5 record, I would agree with you. If Schaub was still playing right now and we currently have this 10-5 record, I would also agree with you. The reason people are not so giddy is because the current team is responsible for a 2-2 record with a below average offense. The team that that went 7-3 with an offense that led the NFL in time of possession as well as probably the most balanced offensive juggernaut no longer exist. If that offense still existed, but only going through a slump, then I'm sure there'd be a lot less panic. But that's not the case here. We have a fundamentally different team.
