I don't know, I thought Grant Hill was pretty damn good pre-ankle injury. He couldn't get the Pistons past the first round during the Bulls Dynasty in the east, but hey, Kevin Garnett can't get out of the first round either.
    99-00 pre-injury: 25.8 ppg, 6.6 rpg, 5.2 apg, 1.39 spg, 48.9 FG%
    95-00 averages: 21.9 ppg, 8.0 rpg, 6.4 apg, 1.56 spg, 47.6 FG%
    Pretty damn good.
It's a shame about his ankle. At full strength, Hill and T-Mac would have torn up the East.

Laettner, Ferry, and Hurley were probably the three biggest busts from Duke (all were caucasian too...does this spell doom for Dunleavy?). William Avery could have been a solid pro, but he came out too early. Trajan Langdon was a bust. Corey Maggette, like Avery, came out too early, but still has a chance to develop into a good pro. Brand's been as advertised, an all-star caliber PF. Battier's already a solid pro. I believe that Jay Williams will develop into the best player out of the Duke alums. Mike Dunleavy should be a solid pro; he's more skilled than both Laettner and Ferry.

Dunleavy will be a solid to good role-player in the league, but not worth the position he was drafted at, imo.

While people claimed Dunleavy was a "great shooter" his numbers (especially 3's and FTs) playing around JW, Battier and Boozer the last 2 years were not even in the ballpark of what Langdon (which is all he can do) or Battier did at Duke. I never saw all the fuss about him, and have been saying so a long time. Could be wrong, but I doubt it.

I am not Duke fan, but Battier always impressed me. Yeah he will never be great, but he will always play hard, within himself, and smart--to go long with his good shooting. He would be a perfect SF for us as far as I am concerned.

I seen the guy play in the SPL this year, and he's is definitely not out of shape. From watching him on TV, I thought he was going to look weak and soft, but he appeared much wider and cut-up than I expected.

The guy that needs to get into shape is Wang Zhi Zhi. He could be so much more effective with some muscle on him.

Dude he was a point guard coming out of high school.
Learn to better playmaker, please. His problem will never
be on offense, but will he ever be strong enough to hold
top flight sf in the west like KG, Marion

I'd say that Alaa Abdelnaby and Thomas Hill (remember him?) are the greatest ex-Blue Devils. Nobody else comes close (Grant Hill, who is now being derisively called "Grant Ill", was/is the most overrated player in the NBA) ;)

Dunleavy's comparisons to Bird are way off-base; Bird was able to compensate for his lack of quickness with post-play, able to guard power forwards. Dunleavy is a different player. He is a good playmaker who doesn't rely on set-up shots; he has a well-rouned game. He will work well on offense as either a point forward (to collapse defenses) or a slasher. A smarter Keith Van Horn is a good comparison, with his only question mark being lateral quickness on defense.

Quick trivia question: who was the only first-round pick in an NBA draft to lead the ACC in scoring? (Dick Vitale brought this up...)

    Wouldn't that be Jay Williams?
That's pretty amazing that he's the only player ever drafted first round to lead the ACC in scoring, considering all the great college players that have come out of the ACC: Jay Williams, Juan Dixon, Elton Brand, Trajan Langdon, Rasheed Wallace, Vince Carter, Antawn Jamison, Jerry Stackhouse, Grant Hill, Christian Laettner, Ralph Sampson, Michael Jordan, Len Bias, James Worthy, Sam Perkins

That would be awesome. A guy who knows the fundamentals and plays with his brain. I think even a player like him would better fit our team than Rashard Lewis. Rashard Lewis is a better ballplayer, but he does not fit.
