Its so hilarious. Everybody was like "we need to get a star," "we need to get a star," "we need to get a star." Then we finally end up trading mediocre players for a star and everybody is complaining? I seriously don't understand you guys. You are delusional if you thought we were going to get a star for free, if you thought any star was going to sign with us or if you thought Les was ever going to tank. We had nothing we could build around. Scola/Martin are good but not pieces we can build around. This trade gets us that.
Gasol could have been a great piece to build around. We have assets. We have Morey. We will have a real coach down the road. We'd have a solid 1, loads of PF's, and a first round pick from the NO. We could have filled this team up nicely. Instead, we're back with this mediocre team. I'm sick of it.
I can explain that to you: We wanted to get a star to be able to conpete for a championship. Pau alone would not be enough - but we can build around him you say? Yeah, we could try to build around him, but we`d have to be quick. He is 31 years old, so realistically we can expect 3 more good years out of him (and that`s stretching it). Now we need another C and a go to guy in the clutch. But we have no assets left to get both. With cap space we might get a guy like Nene (injury prone 10 and 10 guy with nice offense but bad defense). But this line up doesn`t make us a contender: Lowry / Flynn Lee / T-Will Bud / Morris Gasol / PPat Nene / Hill But it makes us better than what we are now. So why do I still don`t like the trade? Because we give up too much. Martin is an elite scorer with no defense, Scola is a crafty PF with little defense. Both can be great players around a star - so both should be able to help us in a trade or with a star we somehow got. Plus we give up a first rounder in a very deep draft. And that all for a 31 year old star and some cap space. I am ready to give up every single player, but it has to at least give us the potential to be a contender in the future. If a trade doesn`t do that, I am not willing to give up just about every assett we have. And in the end I prefer to fight for a playoff spot with Scola than to fight for a playoff spot with Gasol.
