I've had dog meat. And I'm Vietnamese so make all the jokes you want :)
I've also had donkey. It was lean and quite good.
Also have had chicken blood jello, chicken's feet, chicken fetus (or balut as others have called it), pig's tongue, pig's intestine, pig ears, pig tail, rabbit, snake.
Stinky tofu was probably the nastiest thing I've had and it's not meat. Weird eh?

I regret very much not indulging in ambitious food while visiting Vietnam. The noteworthy thing I remember about food there were the spring rolls, which were incredibly good; the best I've had by a long shot. Overall, the food I had in Vietnam was exceptional, especially the seafood.

Off topic: Vietnam is the only place in the world I've been where the driving is worse than mainland China. Complete insanity 100% of the time in the city.

I usually eat sliced thousand year old eggs with tofu, soy sauce, some oyster sauce and a little bit of parsley. They're strong in taste, and I wouldn't recommend eating an entire egg by itself.

Quail eggs are also delicious. I gotta admit, I haven't tried stinky tofu.

There's wierd food in all cuisine. I've tried foie gras and pate. I don't know what horse meat taste like.

You guys keep talking about the thousand years old eggs in this thread. What actually is a thousand years old egg? I eat chinese foods a few times a week but I have never heard of it?

Do you eat at Wok Express or Panda Palace or some such Americanized Chinese place? Or have you ventured into the bowels of Chinatown where you're assaulted by the smells as soon as you walk in the door (and even before) and you're the only non-Asian face in the place. And the utensils and bowls are dirty because dammit that's what makes it taste so good.

    Stinky tofu rocks!

    The stinkier, the tastier.

But you need to have a decent ventilation hoods in your kitchen if you don't want to have the smell stay in your house. Maybe the best way to cook stinky tofu is to do it outdoors.

Like preserved eggs, stinky tofu is a product of some fermentation process.

I believe stinky tofu was originated from the city of Ningbo in Zhejiang Province on China's east coast, just south of Shanghai. It also has other types of stinky food like stinky winter mellon.

I think people use duck eggs because they are much easier to produce the kind of preserved eggs Chinese have been accustomed to. Typically, the brownish egg white has gelatinous texture while the dark green egg yolk is semi-creamy with some distinct sulfur-like aroma. I was told by my folks with chicken eggs you could hardly achieve the same effects. There might be some other (historical) reasons for using duck eggs I don't know.

By my own experience with making salted eggs, I tell you the difference is very pronounced. A well prepared salted duck egg has eye-pleasing, bright red golden-ish egg yolk which oozes oil, and it stimulates your appetite instantly. On the other hand, salted chicken eggs often lack such characteristics and are dullish looking, thus much less the appeal.

Another example. The Peking Duck is famous for its crispy yet juicy (actually greesy is a more descriptive word) duck skin. Because ducks have more fat under their skins, they can afford the long roasting processes without getting 'dried up.' Chickens may also be roasted with the similar procedure, but they would never get the same crispiness and juiciness of the roasted ducks.

You are right on the money. Did you watch Stephen Chow's 'God of Cookery'? His secret of success is the 'dirty noodle' receipt. That movie is so funny. :D

    American buffalo is bison, btw.

That Doritos and sour cream sounds pretty crazy, could you imagine if they made a sour cream flavored dorito???Even crazier, what if they added some onion flavor to them as well???? Hey, maybe we can get a patent, I'll split the profits with ya!!!

The weirdest thing I have eaten is grubs...I also ate dog once.

Go to FoGo De Chao. The one next to that Double Tree closest to the Galleria if it's still open. They have all kinds of Brazillian meats. Alligator, rattlesnakes, buffalo, byson, you name it. There is another one on Westheimer.

Half of the things eaten in this thread is what elminated most of the Fear Factor contestants.

I've eaten some chicken hearts before when I was young. It was very disgusting but my parents loved it.

oh yeah, one time I cooked a burger and didn't have any bread so I used waffles.

I didn't put anything in it besides the hamburger meat.
