I ate some lobster sashimi with the family once. Great presentation, they had a dish of lobster meat lined up with the decapitated head in the middle. The meat was delicious. It was fresh and soaked up the wasabi nicely. The meat was so fresh that the lobster's eyes were still moving.
That's like what I do when I rip a man's heart out of his chest and show it to him so quickly that he can actually see it beating before he dies.
Page five and what have we got here. Duck tongues. Chicken fetuses. Eyes still moving. Large intestines. Roadkill. And fish eyeballs. Next time I need an appetite suppressant, I will read this thread. I have nothing much to add here since I'm notoriously squeamish and even watching Fear Factor makes me want to puke.
I have to agree with this nutty lady here.... That is some pretty damn revolting, nasty stuff to put into one's mouth....
I've had marshmallow flavored popcorn.....YUMMY! Anyways, something wierd I used to do in elementary was dip my french fries into my jello/whipped cream. YUMMY! Other than that, I haven't really had the opportunity to be an adventurous eater, other than the random subs I make up (A roast beefe, salami, and spicy ham sub with mayonaise, every vegetable we have and buffalo sauce. That was GOOD!)
Domestic USA: Chitterlings (pig small intestines). It's a shame my wife doesn't appreciate them. Hog Maws (pig large intestines). Scapple. I bet nobody here even knows what it is. Tastes good with either ketchup or syrup. Philippines: Balut (Hard boiled duck eggs with a baby duck inside). Actually tasted good and I had a 2nd one. Japan: Sea Urchin sushi Nato (sp?). Sushi that is fermented beans. This is the 2nd most pungent thing I've ever eaten. Very very difficult. Countless other things in Japan. China: "Thousand year old eggs". They are green and translucent. Only ate 1/2 of one. I'm tough but not that tough. The smell in my nose while it was in my mouth would make most Americans vomit instantly. Beyond description. Chicken Feet. Should have seen the look on their faces when I said I liked it. Priceless. Shark fin soup. Big disappointment; way overrated. Ginseng juice. Very good. No sweetener needed. Taiwan: Snake soup and other misc stuff. When my (Chinese) friend finished ordering it and other items, the waitress walked away, turned around, came back and jabbered something in chinese to my friend. Turns out she was concerned I would be offended by what he ordered. He told her NAAAAH, not this guy. Malaysia: Hairy Crab. Nothing on planet Earth like it! Singapore: Sweet and sour crab. Hong Kong: My group goes to an area where there are seemingly hundreds of water tanks full of shells, various fish and crustaceans. My friend points to certain tanks and the fish/shells/etc are each put into their own very large plastic bags. One item was a huge panfish that flipped and flapped violently inside it's bag for the whole 10 minute walk to the restuarant. After we sit down, everything is cooked and brought to us by course. When they brought the panfish out, that old boy was goooooood! Peking (Beijing) Duck. Yummy yummy. It's better in Hong Kong than in mainland China supposedly. That skin is one of life's guiltiest pleasures. Qatar: South Indians run the place. I had some Indian food that would permanently remove your taste buds. I saw people eat steak tartar in Paris. Also saw horsemeat for sale.
Isn't is called "Chitlins?" A lot of Southerners love those....I've never tried them. That's a pretty impressive list. I saw something on tv about a bat soup, where they catch a bat, and hack it up(head and all), boil it for a few hours, and put it in a soup. Now, if you ever ate that, you'd win.
This thread is inspiring me to invent something. I'm about to deep fry some roast beef and ham that's wrapped in a tortilla. I don't know if I'm gonna make a dipping sauce for it yet, though.
Ive had scrapple which is like a head cheese it that's the same thing. Pretty good with eggs for breakfast. I've had Nanto and didn't think it was that bad especially with the raw quail egg. The only draw back I noticed is it gives you lethal gas. See I love all of that stuff, particularly thousand year old eggs in congee so I don't consider those weird. The hairy crab is really good. In Singapore did you have the chili crab? That is really good.
You can buy colagulated pigs blood at most asian markets, you can put it in congee and soup, I haven't tried it but a lot of asian elderlies love it.
That reminds me; I've had the pig blood cake in some Vietnamese soup once (it was at a Pho restaurant downtown, but this was some type of spicy soup they had). I've also had steak tartare at a Lebanese restaurant. I've also swallowed the occasional live minnow while fishing.........but just to impress the ladies.
