Got to wuv it! Using the Bible to justify not resigning!!! Thanks for posting. I though of doing it. My wife and I had a real chuckle over this one. Do you think the family values crowed will buy it?
With all these affairs that pops out I'm just wondering how many guys cheats but just havnt got caught yet. I'm assuming alot when you have money or in power .... celebrity wise too. shiet I think I would too ....
At this point .. . I am thinking the same thing. I suspect they all got mistresses/[what do you call a male mistress?] stashed away somewhere and it is just maybe some are better at hiding it than others Rocket River
wow, i hope not. and having to resign is a lot less impactful than what King David had to deal with as judgment. i'm guessing he doesn't want to go there.
Rather than King David, he should have simply used Bill Clinton as an example of why he shouldn't resign.
Lindsey Graham brought up Clinton as a reason why Sanford shouldn't resign this morning on Meet the Press. Of course it doesn't help that Graham also voted to remove Clinton from office over the Lewinsky scandal.
I love when the party of family values tells you how to run your household. I love that America has told them to "GFY".
If the question is whether or not he should resign due to infidelity, then the fact he left for however many days is irrelevant.
I don't think that's the issue though. Very few politicians resign due to infidelity - Ensign, Gingrinch, Clinton, etc all stayed in office. The ones that do resign are the ones that also did something unethical relating to the job or something illegal (Spitzer, for example).
My comment was directed regarding him using King David as an example and the folks that think it is a ridiculous example. There are plenty of recent/relevant examples he could have used instead.
Clinton was just inattentive to affairs of state for 5 to 20 minutes or so occasionally. He was iirc in the oval office just out of eyesight of staff--a place where Hillary thought that she had him under control. I imagine he still was available by all means of communication to perform his official duties. Even the the "button" was available to nuke folks.
There are several questions but none of the important ones are about infidelity. The two main issues are hypocrisy and irresponsibility. Hypocrisy of course because he presented himself as a moralist and scored points by trashing others for doing exactly what he did (this is the same reason that Spitzer was rightly forced to resign). Irresponsibility because he left his post leaving no one in charge. If there had been an emergency, it would have been significantly worsened by the fact that nobody knew who was in charge.
Basically, the South Carolina Republican party brass has to turn on him. So far, they aren't willing to do that. That's the party of God and family values for you.
That was the first thing that came to my mind. David didn't resign, but lost his child becuase of his infidelity. I think the family values crowd probably remembers that part of the story. I don't think he should resign over infidelity. Maybe he should resign for disappearing for 5 days, unless he did make some provision.
watching meet the press yesterday, they were saying that the reason they probably haven't calle for him to resign is because there is an election year next year and they don't want to make the lt gov the gov and give him a leg up on the campaign
I read the same thing yesterday. Unless more drips out, Sanford will serve out his term. There are a lot of Republicans in SC that don't like the Lt. Governor.
