Great news for the Rockets, because in the playoffs we won't have to worry about playing anymore Tier 2 teams!
My guess is it's relying on the 3pt shooting too much, without having a system to get your shooters open. If we hit our 3's we win, if we don't we lose. It's a terrible thing to rely on but Moreyball is our system
I'll say it again, the Rockets chances lie with how much intensity they play with over 48 minutes. They aren't going to figure out how to shoot better, but they sure has heck need to pick up the intensity level.
Pick up the intensity level? Only after we trail after the first quarter or are down 15 middle-to-late 3rd/4th quarter.
Great information. My takeaway: we are that creepy loner kid of the NBA.......you don't really know whether he'll pee in his pants standing in the lunch line or blow up the whole school. That's why no one wants to play us. They are afraid we will go Rockets-Clippers on their azzes.
The real question is can we pull one of the greatest upsets in league history vs Spurs or Warriors? Hell yes we can. Who's with me
Just saying we have to play to our strength which is that we have a lot of athletic guys and not a whole lot of shooters. That means we need to expend more energy on defense by a lot and play guys less minutes to make up for the fact that they will tire out faster. JB has to say that he will play the guys who play with intensity, and if the intensity drops he will put someone else in. Period.
I completely agree with this. When the intensity on defense is there, we seem to be able to play with pretty much anyone. Our D feeds our transition offense, which translates into us playing more aggressive defense. It's a beautiful thing to watch. When we aren't pressuring on defense, that is when we have to play true half-court set offense, and we struggle mightily. That's when it turns into everyone watch Harden do his thing, then the TOs come, and all of the sudden it's a 20 point swing. I like JB, I think he will be a decent HC in the NBA, and I get that he kind of had to play vets vs. young players. But at this point, there is absolutely no reason KJ shouldn't be getting at least 10-15 mins off the bench, even if it is as a defensive specialist type role. Every time that guy comes in, the energy and defensive attitude seems to immediately change.
This gives me a little bit of hope that IF we can make it to the playoffs, we could pull an upset in the first round. But I doubt we are consistent enough to make it further than that.
This original post was one of my favorite this year. It really underscored the lack of consistency by the Rockets. Consistency is a hard thing to measure - was it the coach? shooting? was it leadership? or chemistry? One statistic I think that goes well hand-in-hand with the OPs is the best and worst games of our star players. http://www.hoopsstats.com/basketbal...kets/players/james-harden/bestworst/16/10/156 If you look at stars around the NBA, their performance beta lies within a much narrower range. But Harden and Howard have more games that are absolute stinkers. The lack of leadership and lack of consistency by star players is a big reason for inconsistency this year.
