You have to look at the meaning and intent of the songs...not just cherry-picking a few words. The song you referenced is actually a very personal one. A good portion of the newer material doesn't seem to be as earnest or sincere (to me).

I only look for maturity in Weezer lyrics. I'm glad you know what the cliche responses are and you are able to point them out for us.

I love Raditude and the Red one, listen to them all the time.

When does this new one come out?

I don't think a good pop song needs to be earnest or sincere.

It doesn't need to be, but I prefer another layer behind the "pop gloss."

Great comeback. Did it take you all hour and 40 minutes to come up with it? ;)

FYI guys, the album is on their myspace page to stream for free. Apartently they did this due to leaks on the net. I still cant find the damn thing on any download sites. Not impressed with it though.

My first thought was that it was gonna be Elizabeth Hurley on the cover. Imagine my disappointment upon seeing a hairy fat guy instead of her.

Here's the thing with Weezer. At first they were Rock nerds and their nerdiness came out in the music in a good way. By the last album it seemed like Cuomo was trying to be what Weezer used to be, instead of just being himself. It didn't work. Someone who's no longer the awkward nerd still playing that character in the songs doesn't cut it.

Because he's talented, his stuff is still better than a lot of the crap that's out there. But it doesn't live up to Weezer's best. I think there is plenty of nerd left in Cuomo but he doesn't need to play up what he thinks the nerd him should like for others. Just be himself and his nerd will come out.

Is he not the same nerd? Or did the old bassist actually write everything?

So I wasnt expecting much, but I actually really like Hurley. I mean it isn't great, but its an easy listen and has some fun songs. Definitely a step in the right direction from their last few albums.

Pshht. if he really wanted to write about teen nerd angst he should have themed it around Benjamin Linus. The misunderstood genius who was never truly appreciated until Hurley (one of the in-crowd kids) let him in.

that whole song is about living with alcoholism. and the Jimmy part is actually talking about Rivers brother. How they used to play in the house but there was always the presence of alcohol and the chance that things can go awry ('something is bubbling behind my back, bottle is ready to blow')
