Simple question here - now that the Texans are locked into the No. 3 seed, should their primary focus next week be on rest or establishing momentum? Note that when I say rest, I'm NOT suggesting to tank. Obviously, Yates needs to get all the reps he can, and it would be fun to end the Titans' season. I think the Texans will go aggressively from a playcalling standpoint, regardless of who is out there. When I say rest, I mean the starters (or quasi-starters) with nagging injuries like Joseph (hammy), Daniels (knee), Andre, Tate (hammy), etc. The momentum argument, of course, is that with things as bad as they've been the past six days... some seem to think the Texans should treat this game like a must-win game to have a chance in the playoffs. So, if you're Gary Kubiak... which is more important? Curious what the general pulse is.
Posted this in another thread... On offense, TJ needs the reps and he needs his starters in the game, AJ included if he's ready. We risk injury but the way this season has gone, who cares. Maybe play AJ the way you would in a 3rd preseason game. The defensive starters can sit out, we know what they can do.
Maybe rest Joseph and Daniels, but Andre has played 1 1/2 games in the last 12 weeks. If he's ready to go, he could use a game to shake the rust off.
The Texans desperately need a win heading into the playoffs -- treat this like a crucial must win game.
Tough call. I'd say rest some guys on defense we know the D is legit.. On offense they have to get something going it'd be crazy to think they can just turn it on in the playoffs when they havent played well in weeks. So I say play the starters try to get somthing going on O...
IMO rest is more important. All the momentum the Texans had is now gone with the last two losses. Why risk injury. I doubt one game is enough to get any momentum started.
If certain teams lose then we control the Titan's fate of going into the playoffs and us playing them in the first round. I really wouldn't want to lose against them, letting them in the playoffs with their recent win on us over our head.
Give snaps to those that need snaps, like Yates, all the receivers, and AJ if he can play. Last chance to develop chemistry.
Wouldn't "resting our starters" mean that we are taking the dreaded conservative route that we all hate? I say play the next game like a playoff game because we need it. This is a young team here.
How so? Patriots are 12-3, can't catch them. Ravens are 11-4, best we can do is tie but we lose the tiebreaker based on head to head. If the Ravens and Steelers lose next week and we win, there will be a 3 way tie but the Ravens would still end up #2 and we'd be #3 based on tiebreakers.
