All the name brand oil mix has stabilizer in it that will take care of this for a year or so at least; just don't leave anything in the sun or rain. "Starbrite" is a great product for your non-2cycle gas/diesel needs.
You can't stabilize 10% ethanol fuel, and the chemicals that help with ethanol are not in 2 stroke oil bottles. You can stabilize ethanol free gas from varnishing your carbs, but gasoline with ethanol will f your stuff up if left for a year.
OK. Which 2stroke oil has chemicals that stabilize ethanol. I use Stihl synthetic 2 stroke mix because it is the best on the market and then I use ethanol free TruFuel at the end of the season. The only thing I know of that even claims to stabilize ethanol is marine grade Stabil and I have tried it with poor results. So please tell me your experience. Thnx.
It's cool. Everyone should absolutely take your advice. I can't spout out model numbers and such, all I really know are my things, and the things sitting on my workbench that people pay me to maintain and fix. At this point tonight I just don't have the time, the gumption, or the inclination to get into a conversation about that sort of stuff.
So no sort of advice? Dang, I was hoping you could save me money on TruFuel. I guess if you base your living on fixing stuff, telling them they can leave ethanol in their machines for a year is a good move? I mean you could have just easily said "Brand X has stabilizers you should give it a shot and let me know".
I'm currently using marine stabil in generator. I'm sure it doesn't help that much but I'm going to run it today after 2 months. The company I work for sells all of its MTBE over seas. Ethanol fuel treated with snake oil, magic beans or whatever still will kill equipment after certain amount of time, period.
So I went to work with the Husqvarna bought yesterday and so far I like it. Almost started off on the wrong foot by using a TruFuel 40:1 mix. Very glad that I checked the manual before cranking and noticed that it requires 50:1. Granted it was fresh out the box, but it cranked with ease. Hit the primer bulb 10x and set the choke to full, pulled the string twice and it started and quickly killed. Then set the choke to half and pulled one more time and it cranked right up. Closed the choke and was ready to go. Plenty of power and ate right through a full winter’s worth of weeds along my landscaping rocks and fence line. The hedge trimmer attachment didn’t wow but I was able to get my best line up yet on my Red Tip Bushes. Bandwagoner was right in saying that it can be awkward to use and it did take some getting used to. The attachment makes it feel like there’s a brick on the end of the trimmer. Luckily I’ve been lifting for a few months now, but even so my forearms were getting a pretty good workout. Liking it so far and we’ll have to see how it holds up. Not sure how many people are into landscaping here, but I love it. I’m going to take the next few weeks to decide on what king of annuals I want to plant. I know for sure that I want to plant 8-10 small hibiscuses as perennials. Hopefully the weather finally settles down by then.
