Why not legalize it... we are already paying higher taxes so that these lazy, unemployed, uneducated losers can survive.... at the minimum this way the government gets back some of the welfare money we give their lazy a$$e$.
the valedictorian at my high school smoked EVERYDAY, in the morning, at lunch, right after school (we would load the bowl as we were exiting the parking lot), and then at night. A lot of my other stoner friends had well over 4.0 GPA's.
Personally, I'm against it. I know it's the "cool thing" to believe it's no big deal. Yeah!!!! I smoke weed. But, most of the people I know who smoke weed, are very boring and just lame when they are UTI. Some may say funny, but acting like a paranoid 10 year old who makes no sense, personally is annoying. I met a girl once and trying to hang out with her was a mission, she just sat on the couch all day. And conversation was elementary. Now, to be fair, I know not everyone smokes constantly. A very casual use, you can argue is no big deal....I understand. And I also would agree that compared to other drugs it's like at the bottom of the list. But even so....just not for me.
So, your position is that despite the violence created by prohibition, the fact that we are strengthening and supporting criminal enterprises, and the fact that our current system gives our young people ready access to drugs, you think that mar1juana should be illegal because the users you know are "lame." Wow.
Way to be deep GR. Sure....you figured me out. I apologize. You must have been the man at your local community college.
lol... For someone complaining about people being "lame", you sure do act juvenile. Way to engage in an actual dialogue rather than resort to childish [failed] Internet trolling.
I'm with you abotu legalization... Mainly because I don't think there won't be any significant difference in the US post legalization and pre-legalization. There will certainly be a statistical jump because more people will admit it and be willing to buy it. But to me, the important thing is whether the number of people who WANT it or don't want it will change. I don't think that will change at all. In fact, I think it will go down. I'm just playing devil's advocate here.. About your quote above though, I'm pretty sure it is directly related to the price of drugs. The price has gone down, therefore the efforts to combat it are mitigated. What I'm trying to say is that at today's price, far more than 1.3% of the people in the 1900's would be on drugs. Also, there were far less drugs. Most of all, drug use at that time was specifically a luxury for the "upper" class, which drove the price up. How do you propose cutting off the access which youth would have to the drugs? I hope you don't think there won't be a black market for it, because there most certainly will be one. It will be cheaper and they will be able to offer a lower quality product at a far lower price - which appeals to the younger people and those strapped for cash. Essentially I see a market being formed where only the wealthier people can afford the regulated product and they reap all the benefits while everyone else suffers. I'm sure you're aware of the stupid tricks dealers use with disregard for health (sugar water, petroleum, "glass powder", etc..) Also my number one concern is - what controls do you put in place to ensure that no one actually benefits from increasing the number and daily usage of mar1juana, especially to an unhealthy level?
All I know is . . If I were a Farmer and this became legal no matter what crop I had. . . I'd burn it and start growing Hemp IMMEDIATELY Rocket River the mythical CASH COW
I would too. Hemp is very nearly as profitable as mar1juana and could help our economy tremendously. The insidiousness of the drug war shines through clearly on the issue of hemp. Most people don't know about a film made by the US government called Hemp for Victory, which was a plea for farmers to grow hemp for the war effort. Since then, the DEA (not Congress, the DEA made the determination under the Controlled Substances Act) has prohibited hemp farming despite the fact that it would take a joint the size of a telephone pole to get you high.
I'm against smoking it, but agree that it should be legal to do in a private place. No more dangerous then alcohol.
I never understood why soft drugs are illegal but Cigarettes and Alcohol isn’t. Smoking cigarettes is worse for your health than soft drugs and more addictive. And alcohol is very similar in the result from using soft drugs. I’m happy the Netherlands are more open towards drugs than most other countries. (Even if our previous conservative government was moving in the wrong direction, like trying to close coffee shops). Haven’t people learnt from the Prohibition period. Just legalize drugs and regulate it, you will reduce crime as a result of it. The government can even tax it, so that they make money from it. Furthermore if you make it legal you can make sure that there is no bad weed in it. It will be less expensive so junkies will not have to steal to by it. Oh well for some reason soft drugs is much more dangerous than alcohol . Like I said soft drugs is sort of legal here, and there are much more problems with alcohol than with soft drugs. Many of my friends have used drugs and they are still normal functioning people. There is no harm in using Soft drugs in moderation (same with alcohol).
C'mon man, you know what everyone else and I mean when we intelligently talk about legalizing mar1juana. Common sense should tell you that we're talking legal more like alcohol (obviously) and not legal like Pez. Problem with this is that you are generalizing everyone who smokes. Just because the people you know are lame (probably lame even before weed) doesn't mean everyone else who smokes is like that. I could sit here and talk about how most people who drink are nothing but a bunch of loud douche bags that are obnoxious and act completely different when they're drunk. But is that fair to everyone who drinks? I'm sure that wouldn't have stopped the ending of alcohol prohibition. Just like those lames shouldn't overshadow all the positives of legalizing mar1juana. I actually prefer the mar1juana social setting as opposed to the alcohol setting. I don't like being around loud obnoxious drunks. Alcohol changes people too much when they're under the influence. With mar1juana, you can actually still function. Your coordination is still there, no stumbling around, no throwing up and you won't have problems pissing on yourself when you pass out. Don't get me wrong, drunks can be funny, up to a certain point and then its just down right annoying. But that's just from my experience.
Are you also against the legalization of tobacco because it makes people smell bad and alcohol because drunk people are annoying?
i believed everything you said until this.... unless you know a grower directly there is no way in hell you paid that price in texas...waaaaay cheap....
to add... CHI your withdrawl experience is nothing I have ever heard of... I was on about a 2-3 g a day habit...had to quit for probation and was fine after 2 days.....btw 5 g's a day is mighty impressive almost unbelieveable, but whatever...I could still hang around all my stoner friends with not even a second thought...It's very strange how certain drugs effect people differently....that being said...legalize this stuff already...2 years and atleast 5000 dollars of my money down the drain all because I was caught with .7 grams...was it so much to ask that the cop just toss it and let me walk for less than 10 dollars worth of weed?
I have a friend going through the same stuff. He has stuck to his probation, so hopefully they let him off in September. Thousands of dollars and so much wasted time, all for a tiny amount of a substance less harmful than most cleaning products. Wow. I'm really sorry you had to go through that.
Like I said a couple times already... just google "mar1juana Withdrawal". Just because you've never heard of it doesn't mean it doesn't exist.
