They gave us an 800 number to call at 6am tomorrow to find out. I'll bet they're going to give us some totally ambiguous answer like "if you feel it's safe to drive, come in. If not, don't." Gee....wonder which one I'll pick... No matter what, if the park and ride isn't running, I'm staying home.
Management's approach where I work is something like this... "If you don't think it's safe to come in, don't come in...although we expect you to be here. Just use your discretion. But if at all possible, you need to come in." I feel like... Just got word from senior management that we'll be opening at 10 am... which is 3 hours later than I normally come in. BUT... SciGuy Eric Berger says the roads won't be clear until around noon, and even later than that if you live in a northern county, which I do. Work is at 59 & 610 by West U. So bummed and pissed... my wife's got the day off and we planned a long day of watching movies and drinking hot chocolate.
No word yet, earlier there was the usual veiled threat that calling in because we couldn't make it in would result in a Vacation Day or unpaid leave....but I'm disinclined at the moment. Wife is off and I suspect daycare may close. Edit: just got the "Essential Personnel Only" word - yes!
We've had about a zillion snow days so far up north but they don't mean jackall in the advent of interwebs and remote access, at least for us desk pilots.
I've been working evenings/nights from home all week. Tonight is supposed to be my last day for that. I'm supposed to return the laptop tomorrow, I hope I can return this thing tomorrow morning and get back to normal sleep schedule.
Just got the call from the Boss. He said to stay home. You ever drive on an icy road before without snow tires (which 99% Houstonians don't own)?
