There is that sence that the trainer can help prevent them and he can, but he has not either so there is some blame on him.
OP, you need to put down the pipe dude Keith is VERY good at what he does the comparison to California wildfires says it best
Well if he's very good how come last year they misdiagnosed Tmac's injury? The trainers said he wasn't injured but then he ended up having surgery off season. What about Ron Artest, weren't he supposed to have a thorough medical exam before he joined the Rockets? According to medical reports Artest's injury was one he had before he joined us, he just reaggrevated it or something. A lot of people here are saying he's very good because he got in Team USA, but then again these two players were misdiagnosed. If it had happened to me and the doctors said I was fine and it was all in my head and I ended up having surgery after you can bet your ass I would file a malpractice suit against that doctor. Trainers are paid huge sums of money to make sure their million dollar athletes don't get injured, and yet the supposedly "awesome" Keith Jones and his staff misdiagnosed two of this franchise' most valuable players. Is that something "one the best" trainers do habitually? The only other case I know of players getting misdiagnosed was Grant Hill
If the Rockets continue to believe we can't do anything about the injuries, then we will continue to have poor injury prevention and slow recovery. That's the difference between us and healthy teams like Detroit and Phoenix. They believe in injury prevention.
If nothing can be done for injuries, how were the Suns able to cut injury treatments from over 2500 to 950 in one season. How were Shaq's corrective exercises able to fix him? If nothing Keith does works, why do we need an athletic trainer? The players can work out on their own. http://www.ptsacademy.co.uk/nasm_3d.php
Wow you sure did pick an ugly picture to post of him. Anyways it's pretty obvious our players are injury prone. Their's not much he can do about that.
First of all, I don't remember the trainers saying Tmac wasn't injured last year. Secondly I have a bum knee. It's fine now, but I can reaggrevate it at any time. If I do reaggrevate it, that doesn't mean my doctor caused it. As far as Artest is concerned, the medical staff do the physicals and give the reports. They don't do the hiring. You're beating a dead horse here! And just for your info, Keith Jones wasn't responsible for the horse dying.
TMac is injury prone. He has been the enitre 2nd half of his career. Deal with it. Keith is just playing with the hand he was dealt when it comes to Tracy. Doctors perform medical exams, not trainers. Keith is not a doctor. And if Artest had this injury before he came here, you can't blame Keith. It's up to Ron and Rick whether or not Ron plays, not Keith. If Ron wants to man up and play on an injured ankle, knowing that he might aggravate the injury, the blame RON when he does re-aggravate it. This is sig worthy. You are outta your mind to think that the only other mis-diagnosis was Grant Hill. Player play through injuries all the time. It's part of the game, and some players can tolerate more pain than others. Trainers assist the players and coaches in understanding what the players are physically able and unable to do. In the end, the PLAYER makes the choice on whether or not to play, and the burden of re-aggravating injuries falls on them. Being asked to join Team USA is an honor. Being able to represent your country is a huge thing, and they don't offer that position to anybody. This summer was the 6th time he has been selected to perform these duties for a US national team. Keith has spent his career earning the respect of the players and coaches he has worked with, and elevating his own career in the eyes of his peers. He is UNIVERSALLY respected as one of the most accomplished and credible trainers throughout the league. It blows my mind that people on this board have no respect for a guy that is at the top of his profession.
If he really is good enough because he was also called by team USA, then he must be the most bad luck trainer in all NBA with a lot of unfortunate injuries
He HAS to give him credit, maybe he did help him, but i think he's giving him too much credit. After the way he gave up on Miami last year he needs an excuse, he can't just all of a sudden play very well without a reason because that validates him quitting last year.
I played high school football at a private school in northwest houston, our trainer was the trainer for the Rockets during hte championship years, and also trained for hte Celtics. He was a great guy and he did a tremendous job. My senior year we didn't have one starter miss any time due to an injury (which says A LOT for a football team) and we made it all the way to the semi finals in december. Anyways Keith Jones worked under him, and it seems like ever says Ray Melchiore (my trainer, former rockets trainer) left the Rockets, they have had injury troubles. Am I saying its Keith Jones fault or anything like that? Not Necessarily, but I think its interesting that Ray Melchiore has 5 championship rings, and has done a tremendous job wherever he has been, and ever since keith jones has been at the helm we have had injury trouble.
the trainer can only do what players allow him to do. Technically, for example, taping an ankle may prevent ankle injury, BUT, if a players says he doesn't want his ankles taped, or only want them taped lightly, what can a trainer do?? upset player > upset trainer. It's the way the business works.
You need to do your research before blasting trainers. The rockets knew about Ron's injury. they also knew it wasn't serious, he's had it for a while. Are you going to block a trade that gets you Ron Artest for Jackson and Greene because he has an injury that requires 2-3 weeks of rest??? The mistake was waiting this long to sit him, but that had a lot to do with Ron himself wanting to play hurt. Also, he didn't re-aggrevate the injury. He had partially torn ligaments before coming here, but they weren't bothering him. About a month into the season he sprained that ankle, but it was a minor sprain. However, it did swell up and the swelling is what caused the torn ligaments to bother him. It wasn't misdiagnosed. If he doesn't sprain the ankle, he probably doesn't miss any games. Just bad luck, again. Based on your definition of "misdiagnosed", then Amare and Arenas were also misdiagnosed, as well as others. Amare and Arenas both came back too early, therefore weren't ready and ended up missing tons more time than expected. Why not blame the trainers? Aren't the trainers suppose to say, "STOP, you're coming back too early and I won't let you"...yeah they can, but that doesn't mean much if a player says he feels well and is showing it in practice.
OMG, This just sounds like another Tracy fan making excuses for him. Yes It's all Keith Jones fault.... Get real! I though it was Tracy's fault, He surrounded the Rockets with bad Karma, with his disrespecting the basketball gods and the game.
Phoenix believes in not being physical. That's the main difference. They have been running and gunning for years. Who was their most physical player during that time? Amare. who's been hurt the most? Amare. If they are so good, then why don't they cure nash's back? People forget he has back issues and they aren't solved yet. He had a falre up earlier this season and said himself that its going to happen from time to time because of a back problem he's had. Out of 30 teams, you mention just two who prevent injuries. So are 28 teams not triyng to prevent them? Should they fire all their trainers? Phoenix and the pistons and two exceptions, not the norm/average. They share similarities in the types of players they have, like their body types.
Clutchfans has hit record lows for delusional and r****ded fans. Keith Jones CAUSING injuries is another proof of evidence. You get break your leg, you go to the doctor and you blame him. that's pretty much what people are saying. I'm sure Keith Jones ran over Yao Mings foot with a pickup truck last year too.
Trainer does not have anything to do with how the injuries occur, but most trainers work on the recovery of players and know exactly when players are ready to come back to play. Keith Jones does not have any control or clue on when players should be back to the court after recovery. That is why I think he is not that great.
Read the posts man...trainers don't have total control over that. Amare and Arenas are prime examples, both came back too early as well. Trainer may make a lot of money, or what seems like a lot to us, but compared to players they are nothing. With the pressure owners and coaches face to make their teams contenders or winners, trainers will often get overruled, especially if a player says he's ready.
