First off injuries started 5 years ago. not 6. second....athletic trainer has nothing to do with injury prevention.
third of all...Yao's situation is unpreventable. players bang knees all of the time. no way to prevent that. media making way too much of yao knee bang.
how the hell is it keith jones' fault for yao ming bumping into shane and foster? did he make that happen? he didnt make ron's ankle hurt, he didnt give tmac back spasams...
Well, I don't blame him, obviously he was just trying to keep his job. Who needs him if everyone is healthy and fit like a horse?
Look, bro, you obviously don't read this board very often because there have been people calling for Keith Jones' head. You're not the only one. Keith Jones is not the root of our problem. He was here during the Olajuwon era and is widely regarded as one of the best trainers in the entire NBA, which is why he was chosen to represent the USA Men's Olympic Basketball team as their head trainer. The curse is alive and well, Keith Jones is just one of the many bystanders of the curse.
And we wouldn't have a problem with pointless, beaten to death thread topics if we got rid of you.... 1. Trainers alone have no power over who plays or doesn't. They give their input and suggestions, but DO NOT DECIDE. The coach and players themselves decide, with the coach having the power to overrule the player. 2. A LOT of players wear pads and cushions, sleeves, etc. because THEY like how it feels, not because the trainer does. Players won't wear anything that bothers them while they play, even if it prevents injuries. Many players have been hard headed and didn't use them until several injuries later. Players also have the option NOT to tape their ankles, they can't be forced by trainers. Some players don't like the tape support, others love them, and yes thats true even within a team, so it doesn't depend on what trainer is doing the tape job. 3. Yeah let's get some fresh faces with less experience and knowledge than this guy who's been in the league for years and has worked with almost half the players in this league. I'm sure that'll fix things 4. And i hope you're not saying an ASSISTANT COACH who left houston for Boston solved their injury problems. Do you want Rudy T to come in and tape ankles?
You want a trainer with no expertise with dealing with injures? How can a trainer have anything to do with a player landing on his hip, banging knees, falling awkwardly and breaking or spraining something. You must be someone who believes they got a ticket because a black cat crossed their path. That a Lucky rabbits foot in the Rockets locker room is the solution. Baseball is the superstitious sport.
Yes, the Lakers trainers suck. Shaq would tell you that much. He gives credit for his physical conditioning to the Phoenix athletic trainer.
We probably got a guy like the Lakers and Heat and not like the Suns. Amare has recovered amazingly from his surgery. Nash has been able to extend his career. Shaq has been rejuvenated. Coincidentally, there was a recent NY Times article, where Shaq credited Aaron Nelson, the athletic trainer. http://www.nytimes.com/2009/01/21/sports/basketball/21suns.html?ref=basketball ---------------------------------------------------------- With Trainer’s Help, Shaquille O’Neal Becomes Force for Phoenix Suns [snip] O’Neal came to Phoenix with a nagging hip injury that he feared might cut short his career. He was in no position to demand 15 to 20 shots a game, or to capitalize on them. After 11 months of corrective exercises, the hip is no longer an issue, O’Neal said. “I got a guy here, his name is Nellie,” O’Neal said, referring to the Suns’ head athletic trainer Aaron Nelson, who was working on him as he spoke. “He’s not one of those old guys who just gives you ice and stim. He actually knows his stuff. When I first came in, he laughed. He said, ‘You know what, you don’t have a hip problem.’ The problem, as O’Neal has described it, was that a muscle in his considerable posterior was not “firing” correctly. Nelson’s program helped him retrain those muscles. With his explosiveness back, O’Neal went to Porter in early December. “I just told him, ‘Y’all want me to be me, I’m feeling good, the best shape of my life, bring it to me,’ ” O’Neal said.
So he's the reason Yao fell wrong on his knee last year and Artest injured his ankle? And he's the reason McGrady and Barry has wear and tear due to years of playing basketball? I guess getting rid of him will mysteriously make the entire team healthy, and McGrady and Barry and others younger right?
Battier didn't get hurt until this year. I don't see how that is Keith Jones fault. Sura still has had trouble recovering I don't think that is Keith's fault neither.
Kinda like firefighters, how homes were burned down in the California brush fires... Why can't those firefighters bring on 25 extra inches of rain every year to PREVENT the fires from happening? And dont they have preventative arsonist radar?! Sura was very injury prone. He was just tough and played through them. His season with the Rockets was his 1st year EVER as a full time starter. Playing extended minutes night in night out probably proved too much for him
Bob Sura was old when he got here and had recurring injuries. You guys think all our players are built like LeBron James, they aren't. Injuries happen in the NBA, deal with it. blaming the trainer is like blaming the weatherman if you get a cold.
Yao weighs over 300 lbs. When he falls, he falls harder than any other player on the hardwood floor of the basketball court. So it is sensible for him to wear protective pads on his elbows and knees. You can't argue the validity of "Prevention is better than Cure".
Pads etc... lolz should be manditory with Yao. Comen sence is Yao is big and Yao will be banged up and fall to the ground a lot tripping over feet and twisting ankles, yet why is the trainer not taping him up?
Since Keith Jones is so world-renowned and all, maybe Phoenix would accept a trade of our medical staff for their trainers, but of course Jones is superior and everything so they would have to take on Luther Head's contract too.
