Francis was playing well on the preseason, and I think he is on practice every day, he can play, and why you say that he is not doing something to get playing time, do you go to the rockets practice and see francis not doing anything, or what? and rafer I dont think he is doing much for being the STARTER for this team, with good players behind him.

Only uneducated basketball fans would chant for Steve.

I guess we have two different interpretations of "playing well". I saw an out of shape player who had little clue how to play in the offense and only did anything when he dominated the ball (which IS NOT what the offense is made for).

And obviously i don't get to watch Francis in practice but Coach Adelman does, who has decided that Francis doesn't belong in the rotation nor is playing better than anyone ahead of him in said rotation.

francis WILL have a big role on this team. i have no doubts about it. rafer has sucked for 5 games now (counting preseason). his shots have been WAY WAY off as usual. and he's turning it over quite a bit.

as long as francis is patient, keeps going hard in practice and get in better shape, learn the offense, i have no doubt he'll have his time soon.

right now, although we're 3-0, this team still has a long ways to go. we won the blazer game w/ pure talent. adelman understands that. he wants his main guys to keep working on the offense AND defense.

i wasn't opposed to the chant. i love for steve to play b/c he'll bring excitement. it's just was that the game was still was kinda within reach for the blazers (and knowing how we blow leads). and adelman was still apparently working out some defensive kinks and hearing the chant was weird. i'm sure the players who were playing felt weird.

What's the big deal? We were all just hoping to see Francis again. It was also a way to show Steve that the city still loves him, and that he shouldn't feel unwanted. I hope this motivates him to work hard, and earn some playing time.

Hopefully, steve will be motivated, and works hard knowing that people want to come out and see him.

I was out there proudly chanting.

So . .. lookin at bonzi this year. . .you don't think he could have helped last year?????

If the coach would have maybe tuck some of *HIS EGO* the rockets would have gotten out of the 1st round

I love how we dog players for having an ego and pride
but give coaches a pass on having an equal stubborn streak that costs games

Wow. What a hater. Look, I was chanting pretty loud for steve tonight too. True, looking back at it, we were only up by 11 by the minute mark and anything could happen (see LA). Leaving steve was ideal.

It's cool Adleman was running practice drills and all, but its a friggin home opener. Give the fans what they want. ALOT of fans (shT, it felt like the whole stadium) wanted to see steve just for a glimpse.

Call me "uneducated" but I wanted to get my money's worth. I could see how putting steve in "trash" minutes may demoralize him, but I think he just wants to go out and play a little. We saw vspan and novak on our home opener last season against the mavs when we blew them out of the water. Coulda done the same for steve right before the half.

"We" (as in Rockets fans) gave JVG a pass? That's a very selective memory you have there. According to some, JVG is responsible for every bad thing in this world, including Chuck's poor shooting stroke. In a general sense, NBA coaches are continually roasted on open fires by local fans.

This pass you mention does not exist.

Loved the chants! Hope they continue.
But was pretty pissed Adelman continues to single-out Steve.
    Francis deserves some PT.

Rick Adelman: "We aren't in Arco anymore Toto."

I really don't care about the chanting, just know that it won't change a d@mn thing.

jon feign's take on the chants:

So the crowd got bored and acted as if winning was not all that important to anybody.

Just sit there, clap a little, maybe tap a toe or two and leave entertained. Fans were probably were right to think that getting to see Steve Francis play would fit into all that.

But the Rockets just got back from playing the Utah Jazz and are heading to Dallas where fans are passionate and desperate, just aching to win. The scoreboards during time outs show basketball players. The music gets blood pumping. Fans scream themselves hoarse, rather than call for a favorite son to get to play.

Another season began at Toyota Center and basketball is still treated like just a part of the entertainment package here at Camp Yuckitup.

Perhaps the team can change that. Win enough and fans will come to enjoy that, too. They always have. Maybe Steve will be a part of that. Either way, the Rockets seem to need to convince fans they can do big things for fans to want - even to need -- that most of all.

Bonzi came into camp in shape this year, last year he didn't. Bonzi also quit on the team, he wasn't kicked from it. I have no doubt that BOTH JVG and Bonzi had a role in things not working out, but Bonzi is certainly not blameless.

It's silly to think that coaches are not playing players because they like or dislike them. This is a business and the coaches job is always going to go on the line before the players job will. Coaches play who they think will give them the best chance to win. Not to say they can't be wrong, but I seriously doubt any coach of a winning team is making decisions based on who he personally likes or dislikes. More so it is how much they like or dislike the players performance in games and practices.

There was a point where we had a 16 point lead. If RA had time to practice pick and roll defence he had time to see what SF3 can do.
