I wouldn't call one person the go-to guy, although Carl was in this game... other games Brooks or Scola would be a go-to guy, or maybe someone else would step up. That's the beauty of this ego-less team... anybody on this team can step up have a big game when we need it.
The problem is that Scola needs to dribble dribble in order to do his post moves and is always in danger of getting the ball poked away. AB is useless at the end of games because once you foul/hip check him, he is not strong enough to do anything. Landry's weakness is offensive fouls and usually at the end of games they tend to swallow the whistle.
Not really a go to guy, he just hustles and gets offensive boards and gets fouled. He can create shots at sometimes, but I would have to say most of the points he got at the end were straight up hustle.
You brought up Pete?! We have our go to guy, they both are on the bench, in street clothes. I love Landry, If he can be consistant and realiable down the stretch im all for him being the go to guy.
Przybilla's post defense consists of standing still and getting his hand up. And when the guy keeps scoring on him, he moves to plan B which is falling down when the offensive player touches him while making a post move. He is decent on off the ball help defense though.
This sounds quite good. But, on the other hand, it just makes that every players on the court are the same level. Usually, we need time to make the "team" thing runs. we need to pass the ball, do some pick and roll. Yet, in the last minute of the game, it's usually just a few seconds left. That means we need to go one-on-one. At the last minute, it is not about team anymore. It's just 1-on-1. So, we absolutely like a player like Roy did today... PS: I don't think AB can be rely on at the last moment, and don't even talk about Ariza.
Actually, no -- it's not. Landry is now the go-to guy at the end of games. The coaches have said so pretty clearly ... they want him to get the ball in 4th quarters and they want him to do his thing. They feel that there is nobody in this league who can stop him one on one. They're telling him to demand the ball if his teammates aren't passing it to him. They want him to be more assertive, more aggressive. There's no committee here. The teamwork thing is great for the first three quarters, but when it comes to money time, the Rockets game plan now is to get the ball to Carl Landry and let everyone else play off of him. He is the Rockets' best player by a fair margin, and the Rockets org knows it.
You underrate Pryzbilla. I hate his flopping antics as much as you do, but he is one of the best defensive centers in the league, and if you read the BlazersEdge piece on some leaked scouting reports from Synergy Sports, you'd know that he actually rates better on defense than Greg Oden. He is no slouch, and Landry scoring on him at will like he did is very impressive.
Landry has one thing going offensibely that Scola does not: the face up game. He has three was to score and he uses them: jump shooting, face up and back to the basket. There were a lot of people outraged that Adleman kept Landry out of the last 6 minutes against the Lakers and didn't put him in until Scola fouled out. Since that time Landry has been in the game late in the 4th quarter and closed out. Coincidence? As far as I can say with this team, he is the go to guy, but can he handle it night in and night out?
