Don't you guys think if we showed Max some love and appreciation, he'll have something to help turn things around?

What more positive thing can Vernon derive from his life then his excellent years with the Rockets! Someone needs to pass him the ball before he can start the rally.

Look at Michael Ray Richardson, his substance abuse, made him forget to pay payments on his own mother's house! she had to foreclose! (I saw this on NBA TV, the Michael Ray Richardson story) It took him several years playing ball in Italy for him to turn it around.

Sure hate a man when he's down, yet cheer him when he gives you glory!

I agree.... remember so many times when Maxwell hit big time buzzer beaters to win games for us. And didnt he score 36 points in one half against the Suns in the playoffs

With the Rockets trailing the Miami Heat 101-98 with 3.3 seconds remaining in regulation, Vernon Maxwell takes the inbounds pass, turns and hits a 30-foot heave at the buzzer to send the game to overtime, where the Rockets eventually pull out a 115-109 win to run their record to 18-1. “There was no skill involved at all," Maxwell says. “It was pure luck. But like Kenny (Smith) said afterward, if anybody can make that kind of shot, it’s me. Luck counts."

I was at that game. Great player and any one of you would hit a guy too if they came up to your work place and badger you about your wife's miscarriage.

Will someone please tell me how a basketball player's success on the court has anything to do with the type of person he is?

You are acting like he is very heroic for what he did.

I have been a huge Rockets fan since I was a kid. Vernon Maxwell brought me a lot of joy from what he did on the court and that is where it stops. If I rob people, beat women, do drugs all the time, keep repeating my same mistakes, I guess its cool as long as I show heart on the court.

The truth is that many people over the last ten or so years have reached out to VM and he has shown nothing. Case closed.

Tinman, if you can help him get back on his feet, you will be the first. But go for it if it makes you feel better. Personally, I will feel better about going down to a drug rehab place and help people that deserve it more and who were less talented as a basketball player.

I suspect Tinman is Vernon Maxwell or a relative. No one else cares so much about this man. Go help him.

If we sent out Hakeem with
    Tina Turner's "SIMPLY THE BEST"

We need to send Vernon out with
    Tina Turner's "BEYOND THUNDERDOME"

Vernon at LEAST deserves to be on the all time Rockets team.
Giving Clyde an all time Rocket is like giving Karl Malone an all time Laker award.

most amazing shot i've ever seen....

the rockets are playing the warriors in the 94/95 season. in houston. the warriors have the ball and someone...can't remember who...hits an improbable shot for them leaving just over 1 second on the clock for the rockets.

the rockets need 2 to tie it up.

horry is throwing the ball in...he throws it up toward the basket...but throws it too hard...it bounces off the glass and starts heading back out of bounds. it still hasn't touched a person, so the clock hasn't started.

maxwell tracks the ball down. he gets one foot in bounds as he's grabbing the ball..pulling it back in. his back is absolutely to the basket and he's near the scorer's table. in one motion he spins in mid-air...and throws up a shot. he can't even see the basket.

    swish.

    rockets win.

mad freaking max. he absolutely put the clutch in clutch city.

    CLUTCH CITY WAS BORN:

(May 13-15, 1994) Two hours after blowing the biggest lead in NBA playoff history, the Rockets flew out of Choke City down 0-2 to the Phoenix Suns. Four days later, the Rockets flew into Clutch City with the series tied 2-2. In Game 1 of the 1994 Western Conference Semifinals, Houston built an 18-point lead but lost. In Game 2, they had a 20-point lead in the fourth quarter but lost in overtime. "I'll never forget getting on the charter flight after Game 2," Rockets television commentator Bill Worrell said. "It was like a morgue." The Rockets didn't rise from the dead until the second half of Game 3 when they found themselves behind 49-41 at halftime. Then Vernon Maxwell got hot, scoring 31 points in the second half as the Rockets won 118-102. Houston finished "Desert Sweep" by winning Game 4, 107-96, to even the series.

He started this.. WE OWE HIM:mad:

I guess all money contributed to the tip jar should be forwarded to the Vernon Maxwell bail bond fund.

In 1990-91, his third year in the league and his first full season with Houston, Maxwell became the Rockets' starting off guard. In that role he averaged at least 17 points for two seasons and led the league in three-point field goals in both of those years, drilling 172 in 1990-91 and 162 in 1991-92. On 1/26/91, Maxwell scored 30 points against the Cleveland Cavaliers in the fourth quarter of a 50-point night.

In 1993-94, Maxwell averaged 13.6 points, hit 120 three-pointers, and led Houston in assists and steals as the Rockets won the 1994 NBA championship.

HOW IS HE NOT THE ALL TIME BEST SHOOTING GUARD FOR THE ROCKETS???
Otis Thorpe should be there too for the hard work.

    1992-93:
While continuing to bomb from three-point range in 1992-93, Maxwell developed a reputation as an outstanding defender....Held opponents below their scoring averages in 35 of his 68 starts and notched 86 steals for the season.....Meanwhile, Maxwell led the Rockets in three-point field goals made for the third straight year, hitting 120 of 361 for a .332 percentage....His season ended prematurely when he fractured his left wrist at Seattle on 4/17, amid one of the best streaks of his career....In a sizzling span of nine games, Maxwell averaged 18.7 points while shooting .496 from the field and .404 (19-of-47) from three-point range....Also had 5.0 assists and 4.0 rebounds per game during that stretch....For the season, Maxwell finished second on the Rockets with an average of 13.8 points per game. He returned from his wrist injury to play in 9 of Houston's 12 playoff games, averaging 14.0 points in the postseason.

    1991-92:
Maxwell again led the NBA in three-pointers made (162) and attempted (473) while finishing 29th in the league in three-point percentage (.342)....He bombed from downtown at a torrid pace in March, hitting 50 of 121 attempts (.413) to become the first player ever to make 50 three-pointers in a month.... Starting in all 80 of his appearances, the fourth-year pro set new career highs in scoring (17.2 ppg), three-point percentage, free-throw percentage (.772), rebounds (3.0 rpg), and assists (4.1 apg)....The first Rockets guard to average 17-plus points in consecutive seasons since Calvin Murphy had done so from 1973 through 1980....Scored a season-high 35 points twice-at Denver on 11/2 and against San Antonio on 12/14. On 3/12 he completed a four-point play against San Antonio, becoming one of only five NBA players to record the feat in 1991-92....Maxwell also notched at least 100 steals (104) for the second straight season.

    1990-91:
Maxwell began shooting three-pointers on opening night, and he didn't stop until the Rockets' last game of the season....Hoisted 510 three-point attempts for the year, second only to Michael Adams' then-NBA-record 564 attempts....Made 172 of those shots, topping Adams' mark of 167. (Majerle has since passed them both with 192 treys, on 503 attempts, in 1993-94.)....On 1/ 26 Maxwell lit up the Cleveland Cavaliers for a career-high 51 points-30 in the fourth quarter....At the time, only four other players in NBA history had scored 30 points in a quarter: George Gervin (33), David Thompson (32), Wilt Chamberlain (31), and Michael Jordan (30)..Maxwell hit 14 of 25 field goals in that game, along with 4 of 10 three-pointers and 19 of 22 free throws in 46 minutes....He later scored 45 points in a game against Denver on 4/5, making a career-high 8 of 12 three-pointers, thus becoming only the fifth player in league history to make 8 treys in a game.
