Maxwell will be getting the NBA pension at age 45, and from memory this is quite a sizeable amount per year. Anyone know exactly how much it is?

It sounds like Maxwell was in the wrong, but I do think child support payments are excessive sometimes. He was foolish ( and probably high) to not use a lawyer in the divorce settlement.

Again, is this sarcasm or is this an actually serious quote?

just an old anecdote, in 92 i went to vernon maxwell basketball camp and vernon wasn't there for days 2,3,and 4 of a 5 day camp because he was in jail for assaulting a police officer. it was back when he had the pin in his arm and he punched a cop at fat tuesdays. the dude is a duesche bag. the camp was fun though. there was more scrimmaging which is all i care about.

OJ Simpson was a great football player. Does he deserve the support of NFL fans?

Maxwell was a great player but he is a man first and a basketball player second and because of the jerk that he is, he doesn't deserve anybody's support anymore. The only thing that makes him any different from any other deadbeat dad is that he was a talented basketball player and was able to squander away all his money. When Vernon played he was one of my favorite playeras but after the events that have taken place over the last 8 years I have realized how much of a dick he really is.

Nah, your daughter would just get the **** kicked out of her instead of being raped. But I guess rape or being beaten is left up to opinion.

What if Vernon would have just accepted his backup role after Clyde came in in '95? Starters Kenny, Clyde, Horry! Backups Cassell, Maxwell, and Mario. That would have been the ultimate backcourt combination. The Rockets might have gotten a third with that in '96, cause you know we would have needed Maxwell guarding Jordan. I know these are just more what if's but it still would have been awesome to see.

Good read. Thanks for the post, tinman.

Max was one of my favorite Rockets. It's good to keep up with him, although I hope the next update is more positive.

    Thanks TB Cain,

No matter how bad his personal life is, I was always happy to see Vernon in the #11 uniform. Everytime I see him, I know that the Rockets have a chance of winning any game in crunch time.
When I see Steve I know that we have chance of a 24 second violation.

Im glad he hurled a dumbell at Gary Payton. I wished he hurled chair or tv at Karl Malone. Im glad he punched that dude in the stands. Serves the dude right for insulting Vernons family.

I hope Vernons son forgives him and he can go become a great champion like his father.

I didnt really like Cylde Drexler. I'm glad he helped us win one, but I feel Vernon to be the true rocket since he was here longer and battled with Akeem and Kenny. This dude gave it 100% on the offense and defensive end.

True Rockets=Dream, Mario, Kenny, Otis, Horry, Vernon, Sam, Herrera, Bullard, Scotty Brooks

To Vernon for the Championships (yes he got a second ring, if he didn't stategically quit to rally the Rockets, we wouldnt have 2 of them):

Looking for something we can rely on
There's got to be something better out there
Love and compassion, their day is coming
All else are castles built in the air
And I wonder when we are ever gonna change it
Living under the fear till nothing else remains
    All the children say

    We don't need another hero
We don't need to know the way home
All we want is life beyond the thunderdome

They should the Vernon Maxwell story as a movie, it would be tear jerking movie. From the hood to the NBA to the hood again. But you can never take away what he did..
I would call the movie....CLUTCH CITY

Eddie Sefko proclaimed the Rockets 'CHOKE CITY' after going down 0-2 to Phoenix.
Who was the hero who beat Phoenix in game 3??
Hint, it wasnt Akeem or Kenny.

Rocket Historians cannot argue that Vernon's game 3 heroics sparked the Rockets to incredible run.

Gene Peterson said 'Maxwell, for three!.. (Loud screaming)..'

Damn Skippy!!! You've convinced me. As soon as I can muster up enough bail money, I'll fly him back to Houston so I can nominate him as the next mayor of Houston.

I can't believe this thread is still kicking. Is it tinman's stubborn insistence on the greatness of Mad Max that keeps this thing going? Tinman, I love me my Vernon Maxwell too, but please let this thread die.

Tinman, you are basically saying you support Vernon Maxwell because of the heart and gutsy play he displayed for the Rockets. Is that a reason to support a criminal? Because he has rare physical talents?

I guarantee there are millions of people out there that deserve more support than Vernon. But they dont deserve it because they have basketball talent. They deserve it because they are good people and have a good heart "off" the court.

Do you think Bills fans support OJ Simpson because of what he did on the football field? Do you think Twins fans support Kirby Puckett because of his play on the field? The Yankees and other fans support Darryl Strawberry because he actually was a good person but has a very bad drug problem. There is a major difference. Vernon Maxwell is a bad person. If he showed even once an effort of trying to turn his life around, I might consider supporting him. Until then, that is it.

Consider this: If you read about someone that had done the exact same things as Maxwell but was not a basketball player, would you then support him?
