Don't sell yourself short. I give you partial credit for the second title as well.

Well..thank you very much. I've certainly had my share of difficulties, but I'd like to think that, in the end, I had a good relationship with the fans of Houston. Primarily the young, female ones.

    Praise a lunatic?

The article forgot to mention that he also held up some lady in a Luby's parking lot.

Vernon Maxwell is a loser and always be a loser. He is in no way like John Lucas who had a drug problem, addressed the problem, and who overall was a good guy. Vernon is not a good guy. He is vioelent, no good lunatic. Just because he made a few HUGE shots for the Rockets doesn't mean he deserves praise. I am embarrassed that he ever represented our team. Vernon Maxwell sucks.

dude, ease up. seriously. he's on the same side of the problem that lucas was once on. i hope and pray that he wakes up, because his life can't be anything but empty. and if he does, then he'll be like john lucas, in that he had the problem and addressed it.

The one that sticks out in my mind is when he went up into the stands and punched the fan. Now fans can be hard on players, but being a PROFESSIONAL athelete you know it comes along with the job. That moment defined his personality and life. You can't compare him to other former players with problems. They got the same treatment from fans as well, but you didn't see them jump in the stands and go after one. I wish the other fans around him would have kicked his ass and put him out of basketball. What he did was not just a mistake or bad judgement it was just criminal. The guy is a genuinely bad person like he was all his career on the court and his life off the court. He went into the stands and hit a fan. It still amazes me to this day.

While I love Maxwell and appreciate what he did for us........He also gave us a black eye by attacking that fan, got numerous gun charges in Houston, beat up his wife, and quit on us when we needed him(tho...once we got Drexler...he wasn't that needed anymore).I wish him the best of luck. However...if any one of us had done what he has done...we would be in prison serving 30+. He has already got his favoritism for being a pro athlete(SP?).

Good luck MadMax....U R gonna need it!!!!!

In all fairness, I would like to know how you would have reacted.

Hadn't his wife just had a miscarriage, and the fan was making comments about the miscarriage to him?

I would have punched the b*stard, too, professional ahtlete or not.

Misplaced compassion. Another unfortunate side effect of hunger. Grab a Snickers bar!

I'm proud of how Maxwell represented the Rockets.
He is his own person outside of Basketball, but when he put on the Rockets Jersey, he showed more heart and determination, and leadership than any of the Rockets we have today.

ex. Karl Malone would never set a cheap shot pick on Maxwell or Malone would have been beaten down on national television

ex. Maxwell would never dribble 23 seconds like some Rockets do

Look, MC Hammer had money problems to, why dont you guys cast some stones at him!

Michael Jordan cheated on his wife, Jason Kidd hit his wife, Kobe....

...and Hitler killed tens of millions. Does that mean we can go beat our women and kids now?

That is totally whack. He went from an NBA champion making millions of dollars, to working as a janitor for $250/week. It's hard to believe that everyone on this site is more financially secure than Vernon Maxwell.

And how the hell do you manage to blow all that money? It's blows the mind. Whoever is calling for his support is f'n crazy. How about supporting his son who's had to grow up with a nutso father who didn't want anything to do with him.

Maxwell has family problems. Hey Larry Bird refuses to acknowledge his own daughter! No one is dissing him. Vernon brought us back from 0-2 against Phoenix dropping 35 in the second half.

This guy has great leadership. The drugs and the fast life got to him. He's paying his dues. He deserves better from the Rocket fans. He was always good to us.

At least he didn't sell out like Karl Malone. You'd never see Maxwell skip to the Lakers!

    Tinman,

if you have a daughter or a sister, would you want Vernon as a potential son or brother in law?

I mean everybody needs chances right? So I am guessing since you're so compassionate, you would trust Maxwell with your sister or daughter.

I believe in second chances too but it seems like the man has yet to prove himself.

There is a difference between a good player and good person.

I am sorry but I tend not to be blinded by the media how they sex up athletes as heroes and role models just because they can put a ball through a hoop. The media does it because it sells, therefore generating money for conglomerates and other companies pending on the NBA for business.

If I had a daughter, I would rather have her date Vernon Maxwell, then Kobe Bryant. At least she wouldnt be raped.

I'm sure Vernon is a great person without the drugs. Kobe did this without any influence of drugs/alcohol. So he's a sicko and Vernon is just another brother who's down on his luck.

Also Vernon is a better looking guy than Kobe.

Down on his luck? What a miserable excuse for someone who beats up on women, amongst other crap. No one shoved the drugs into his body. He chose his actions, can't go around blaming anything else or anyone else but himself.

And as much as I dislike Kobe, can't go around labeling him a rapist so soon, the trial has yet to begin let alone concluded. Unlike Maxwell, his actions are proven facts of his past and probably present who knows. But yes, your daughter wouldn't be raped, just a little bruised up if you want to take that route.
