IU alum here. Yogi has been a joy to watch develop, I've had my eye on him for a while. Reminds me of a better Aaron Brooks. Dude has ice in his veins. He's a scrappy player, but he's just a winner. And he's underratedly jacked. Owns a lot of the lifting records for IU. Size is his dig but his elite quickness and strength make him hard to guard.
Mad game indeed. I still don't understand why manu decided to take the charge when it was only 1.6 secs left before halftime. Brooks' injury (and his attitude issue) totally derailed his what couldve been career.
Dude yes we do. I went to Baylor when Pierre played and he is an absolute stud. We would totally benefit signing him and giving him minutes over Brewer.
fwiw: Anyong remember that article last year about agents describing a movement of players preferring to be undrafted vs mid to late 2nd rounders. Teams would ask them if they would consider a stash year, and those who would say Yes are more likely to be picked, so sometimes the better players end up undrafted. Sounds like Yogi really wanted to be drafted. “So disappointing,” says Ferrell’s father, Kevin, who watched that draft on TV with his son. “I almost wanted to cry, but it just fueled him. It made him want to prove to the NBA that he does belong here.” http://www.indystar.com/story/sport...e-yogi-ferrells-storybook-nba-start/97488720/
I'll say this: I love Morey, our front office, and what we generally do. I get that Brown is on the team because of JH, and I get that Brewer is a sunk cost that we cannot get rid of. Brewer seems to get minutes because he's the yin to so many yangs. He hustles and tries his ass off, he just isn't very good. He gets minutes because of his intensity and hustle, and that's something a coach really has to reward in order to keep other players pushing for PT. I don't always agree with it, but I understand it. I see why we have Wiltjer and the rest of our young guys. Perhaps our FO just wasn't high enough on Yogi. They certainly weren't the only FO, that's for sure. But it's clear as day that Yogi has a role in this league. He's a playmaker, and he would be excellent insurance for EG's injury history. Yogi isn't the ideal off-guard for JH, so maybe that's why we opted for Payton Jr., but Yogi can certainly run this offense with JH resting. I'm really happy to see Yogi get a fair shot (unlike in BKN), and I'm ecstatic for him to get 2 years guaranteed, even if its in despised Dallas. He is an absolute joy to watch. He made the league despite all odds calculated against him; if you don't enjoy Yogi than you really don't enjoy basketball. Similar to Isiah Thomas in that respect. That said, I do think Cuban's IU ties is a big reason Yogi even got a shot. Cuban also worked out IU's Nick Ziesloft this summer, hopefully to gain traction for the kid. Regardless, Yogi has proved that he can play in this league. In his 32 point game, he scored 22 in the first half. Only 3 other draftees from his year have scored 22 in an entire game. Point blank, Yogi is a baller. He's a winner. And he deserves a spot in this league...I just wish it was in Houston, fans would love the Yogi/Trez combo. All heart.
