This thread is an interesting preview of things to come. Come this fall, we will begin in earnest several months of "let's trade for Williams", "let's trade for Chris Paul", and "let's trade for Dwight Howard" threads. It will be Melo x 3.

Out of the big three FAgents in 2012, Williams appears to be the most attainable, at the same time why would he want to come here? This is the problem I've come to recognize about trying to acquire a superstar via trade, Morey has built a solid core of role players but nothing about them stands out. Why would DHoward, Williams or CP3 want to come to this unit when we are so far away?

Those guys could be finishing pieces on title contenders, would we be a title contender with Deron, Paul or even Howard signing here? This unit has to many holes to fill for one guy to be the cure to our problems so while I think Williams could be had, it won't be by the Rockets unless they add another guy to the mix and I guess will find out at the deadline if it happens.

btw the chance to get deron is next to 0. utah is very loyal to their stars. their players are showing loyalty to the team too. jerry is another typical example. of coz, you might mention boozer. but everyone know what boozer is made up. it's no surprise to me utah lets him go.

Utah isn't going to trade Deron Williams until he does become the "next Carmelo". Until it reaches that point he's their franchise player and they won't trade him.

It takes a lot for a team to trade their franchise player. Carmello has already become the "current Carmello" and he still hasn't been traded, that's how hard it is to pull the trigger on trading away a franchise guy. It's a last option that Utah won't excercise unless they have no other choice. Williams situation hasn't reached that point yet so he isn't going anywhere.

And the motivation for the perennially successful Jazz? And where do they find the requisite roster spots for your passel?

The big question is, why would Jazz give up two white players? :)

Give me 5 "Glamorous" cities as you say that a player would ant to play in besides HOUSTON??

I will agree that a Star is needed to recruit other stars but I cant believe its a city thing....IT IS WRITTEN.

Houston has never been a huge market for anything. Plenty of places have a bigger market place, though whether or not it is deserved is a different story. NYC is the epicenter for marketing. LA is Hollywood, enough said. Miami (South Beach) has great beaches and great women on great beaches. San Antonio has a long history of consistent performance along with a consistent and very competent coach and FO. Boston has a very rich tradition and is a great basketball city, even more now that they have not one but 3 stars along with former stars like Shaq and Jermaine and an up and coming one in Rondo. Nets are moving to BK and that should help them greatly in terms of of marketability. Houston has no beaches, lousy party scene, no stars, a competent but largely unproven GM, and a decade filled mostly with mediocrity and failures in terms of actual playoffs performance and including where this season is headed, multiple seasons where we did not even make the playoffs.

There are only a few reasons why a superstar would pick the Rockets:

    - They are not stars yet but borderline stars looking for a chance to shine
    - They are not very viable marketing wise and wish to maximize their NBA earnings through our lack of state income tax and low standard of living
    - They can see past all the glamor and dollar signs and realize that this is the best chance to have a team build around them

    He's signed to Chicago.

Any trade with the Jazz would have to include various players from each team, they don't have any roster space like us. If anything the jazz will continue to build around him, or try to extend him. Only way out is if he walks away like boozer.

Houston is a beautiful city in it's own right, everyday the H is getting bigger on the map economically, media wise, and socially.

Depending on the supporting cast a combo either CP3/Howard or DW/Howard is contender. Honestly I would be happy with just Howard coming to Houston.

So that means eventually, there will only be 2 NBA teams left, and the league will be the next Harlem Globetrotters vs Washington Generals matchup for years to come.

I would love to see DWill in Rockets uniform.
But if DWill is coming to Texas, I think he'll be more interested in Dallas (Where he went to high school and played) before he comes to Houston. At least Dallas is potential title contender.

I love Houston, but I would hardly consider it beautiful. It is true that we are growing, but in terms of sports media, we are definitely not. We are still a complete after thought for not only most star athletes, but for the media as well. There is a reason why people say Houston gets no love. Environmentally speaking, we also have one of the highest levels of pollution. Our nearest beach Galveston is a bunch of rocks and dirty water.

I honestly don't see any big name athletes like CP3, DWill, or DHoward coming here, because we have nothing to offer them beyond what other teams can. Howard would be our best bet, but why would he come here? Because we have a history with big men? I doubt it, especially with Hakeem offering free lessons for anyone who wants them. Even if we add CP3 or DWill, we still have gaping holes at 3 and 5. Not to mention, it will be them stepping into a worse situation.

I believe our only chance of getting or prized superstar is to either take a chance with a player with borderline star status that wants a team to build around him and does not mind the initial rough rebuilding period or get lucky in the draft. Houston is just not an attractive place for players who aren't role players or complete scrubs.

Not if the owners push for a franchise tag, which I still expect them to do.

Why do people always say, "Why would ____ want to come to Houston?" D will plays in Salt Lake City! Why wouldn't he want to come back to Texas? Of course, there is always the chance he may prefer going back to Dallas instead.
