Also, HE IS OUR ONLY OTHER 7' ft GUY BESIDES YAO!!!!!!!!!!!!!! We can use his height and shot blocking in da frontcourt.
If Deke gets a ring as a Rocket I'm thinking many tears of joy will be shed in the stands! GO DEKE!!!! right... Bynum thread is that way?? ===> on my way... GET ThAT **** OUTTA HERE YOUNG MAN!!
LOL, if Deke was a coach, who could/would actually understand him?!? lol he deserves a ring, but id say sign dorsey first, then deke. dorsey i younger (durability, but raw) and deke is older (dont know how much longer his body can hold, but has the talent/knowledge)
not yet. they were supposedly waiting to sign landry first. that's not to say that morey and dorsey's agent haven't already agreed to terms on a contract. now that landry is out of the way, i expect to see dorsey signed as soon as tomorrow.
And the Focus Shifts to Deke the landry situation has finally come to an end and thankfully everything worked out for the best. morey has said that dorsey will be signed before camp. his confidence sounded as if everything was agreed upon and all that was left was to get everything signed. there was even mention of bringing FA's damon stoudamire and darrell armstrong to camp. that made me want to hit the pause button. wait what? outside FA's? what about re-signing our own guy? the only other guy on the team besides yao that stands over 6'9. instead there is talk of bringing in 2 other PG's to camp when we have about 6 guys who can play PG already? he did seem to have regressed a little last season, and maybe even more so for the up coming year, but is there a better option out there? or do we really not need anyone else over 6'9 on this team?
I vote yes on Deke. So, do you reckon a package of Luther Head, Chuck Hayes and Steve Francis could get us a bag of sunflower seeds from anybody?
Of course, we need him. Anyone who says we do not need him just underestimates his role on and off the floor, plus that this year could be the best chance for him to get a ring, just reward a good person with some things, sign him quickly, Morey.
the difference being this is about news and quotes where as the discussion there focuses on weather or not he's needed. morey has mentioned a lot of players but nothing on deke yet.
This is exactly what I feel. Get him with veterans minimum plus some Les' donation to Deke's hospital.
No riot on the summit of Mount Mutombo. Nonono. As long as we have Deke on the team, we can't blow up. We just can't.
I 2nd that, and Mutombo is a good guy, and always been a solid defensive center, but forgive me "old man over the hill needs to retire". He'll have a cane and houston would sign him. I think dorsey, Hayes, or landry can handle the minutes.
We are seriously lacking in frontcourt length. This is a bigger weakness than our PG situation. I doubt any other team has only one player taller than 6'9.
love deke a lot i dont know if we necessarily "need" him with landry now resigned and Dorsey to be signed shortly. it would give us a 4/5 rotation of: Yao/Scola/Landry/Hayes/Dorsey hayes, scola have played center at times and Dorsey played the 5 spot in college. while I would prefer to have some sort of 7 footer on the bench I would not be upset if we ended up playing the season with the 5 above as the "big" rotation BUT I really want Deke to be back. He is still very effective on the defensive end in limited minutes which is extremely valuable. Add in his length and size you want that guy on the bench as insurance. I would be hesitant to give him minutes every night but he certainly can play limited minutes and maybe play a little more consistently towards the end of the season to limit Yao's minutes and rest Yao. Also his locker room leadership and professionalism cannot be matched he is a fine example for our younger players to follow both as a NBA player and a human being. Lastly for me because all of his on court and more importantly (in my eyes) his off court accomplishments I want Deke back one last time to win that ring. If any NBA player right now deserves a ring (if they dont already have one) its him. With the team assembled this year really gives him his best chance (injury free of course) to win since his 76ers days. Bring Deke back if possible I want him to taste playoff glory as a Rocket and let him close an amazing career the proper way
