Well, more than ten years ago I did some drugs. Just think - if I had been put in jail for 5 + years the world (and mostly this bbs) might have missed out on the genius that is rimmy. I would have been completely different. That would have been an injustice. It was also an injustice when I was accused of being under age and intoxiated (when I wasn't either of those at the time). Lol, America's finest.
This is precisely why there is a War on Drugs. BTW, RefferMan, you apear to soft on crime and thus must be a closet liberal (in severe denial).
This is insane. I initially avoided this thread because I didn't want to get in an argument. Then, finally, I opened the thread after doing a little on-line research and rolled up my sleeves to begin the warfare. Little did I expect such a left-right wing love fest! I guess it's time for us lefties to move on to another soapbox issue! Although it does make you wonder... if there's such widespread agreement on an evenly divided message b oard... why is pot still illegal and why are other addicts of other drugs still treated like criminals instead of sick people?
See my response and subtomic's on why there is a drug war..I think that about sums it up. After seeing the pissin contests and arguments that are so abundent lately, it is nice to see a non-Rockets related thread that so many of us can agree on.
Nope. Commit a crime that doesn't involve pot and have me on the jury...see what happens. BTW...it's Ref (as in REFEREE, which I was for 5 years)...NOT anything related to reefer. By other drugs if you mean heroin, etc...the stronger dependency that these other drugs engender is oftentimes followed by actual crimes being committed. The addiction should not be criminal...but being an addict shouldn't give the user a free pass on other crimes. BTW...anybody dealing these harder drugs should be in jail for a LONG time. IMHO...the people dealing pot should be Walgreens.
I read your comments . I was being a bit facetious. I would agree that the drug war exists because of: 1. Inertia - it's hard to stop something that huge and admit that billions have been wasted and political careers built upon a mistaken blunder. And what do you do with the inmates convicted for use/possession/dealing? 2. As you mentioned, money. 3. Terror. People are more afraid of the idea of legal drugs than anything else. They don't want their kids to use it, and they're afraid of the "nightmare" scenario in which our nation is reduced to zombie-land. Too bad drugs are already available for their kids, if they want them. And that there would be fewer "zombies" if treatment were readily available with less stigma attached to it. But, seriously, this thread was refreshing .
5 years.....geez...Stevie.....I wonder what you'd like to do to people who talk on their cell phones while driving? Cut off their ears? Ladies, just a heads up on the mens mag issue...my wife thinks Maxim is hillarious, and she's an independent and confident career woman who nobody would want to mess with. And she and her friends thought "Release Her Inner Nympho" was pretty tame....and it was.
About 80% of all crimes normally associated with drugs should be attributed to the drug war, unrelated to actual use. The inflated value of crack cocaine, for example, essentially funds gang wars. While there are some crimes following use (and intoxication), they're comparatively few and seldom severe. "Stronger" drugs, in fact, produce fewer violent crimes than alcohol.
Southeast and Southwest Asia are both well known for drug production, so I don't think that's entirely true. And there was the 'French Connection.' Damn frogs.
When was the last time you saw a heroin addict getting up at 8am to go to the office? My point was that with heroin (as opposed to pot) the users are by and large not very productive. Given that, and the high cost of the drugs, armed robbery, theft, etc will be the natural result.
On a side note, have any of you seen those billboards that have popped up on freeways leading into and out of Houston? They say something to the effect of... "IF YOU THINK IT'S DRY NOW, WAIT UNTIL OCTOBER SIGNED THE DEA" A friend of mine saw one this weekend on I-35 just north of Waco. WTF is up with these billboards??? Scare tactics???
I live with 5 women, all of whom are 21-25, and university educated/ing, and they, too, find Maxim very funny, most of the time. I agree with that assessment. I love when they make fun of the stereotypical male view of things by being irreverent about it, and their 'strategy' guides re: the opposite sex are almost always done with tongue planted firmly in cheeck, as opposed to Cosmo. I agree that at times there are strategy and/or male perspective pieces which take themselves seriously, but at those times I just tune them out.
Why are you here???!!! If I lived with 5 young women I'd NEVER be on the Internet...I'd never watch TV...hell, I'd never leave the house.
Okay, you're dying to meet me. I can take a hint. You seriously don't enjoy my always-entertaining editorials on 80s hair metal? Besides, I included a pretty good description in my profile, so I don't know what you mean by 'faceless'.
