We need a small forward as well. Ariza is average at best. He used to be an excellent defender but old age has caught up. He has no offense other than a spot up 3. He doesn't really know how to give assists as well.
The answer is a combination of Harrell's energy and Wiltjer's scoring. It's only a matter of keeping them in the rotation.
This season is about looking like a fun team who can score, even Harden knows that. You think these guys are actually ready to do whatever it takes to win? Come one now..
It is so funny to me that we have a thread saying "We need a PF" When we just gave a 4 year, $80 million contract to a PF. I didn't like that move then. I don't like it now. I won't like it for the next 4 years. Anderson is a one dimensional player. His only positive attribute is his 3 point shooting. For his career, he is a 37.7% 3 point shooter. While that is good, especially for a PF, it isn't amazing. So even the one thing that he does well is just pretty good, not amazing. And his 3 point shooting is extremely streaky. Add to that fact of how much of a negative he is on defense- and we are adding him to a team that was already a poor defensive team- and I just don't understand that move at all.
Nope not spoiled. If he had any other skills, at all, then 37.7% would be awesome. But if you are a bad defender, a below average for your position rebounder, a mediocre passer and not a playmaker, and your one redeemable skill is supposed to be your 3 point shooting, and a team is giving you 20 million a season, you need to shoot better than almost 38%.
his ability at that % is still top tier regardless of his other skills. that's irrelevant especially when he's never had the open looks he's going to get this year playing with Harden. people are just spoiled by %'s of rare great shooters like the splash bros.
I'd like to see a lineup of Gordon, Harden, Anderson, Nene and Capela at one point. Not like they are gonna stop anyone anyway.
Ok we can agree to disagree. Last season, Ryan Anderson was the 63rd best 3 point shooter in the league based on 3 point percentage. There were 24 players that shot over 40%, including big men like Olynyk, Scola and Marvin Williams. Other PF's that had better percentages than Anderson were guys like Teletovic, old man Channing Frye, Draymond Green, Dirk, Meyers Leonard and Ilyasova. He was barely ahead of guys like Patterson and Morris. I don't think that high 3 point percentage is as rare as you are making it out to be. Oh, and by the way, Ryan Anderson makes more money than any of those other players except for Dirk this year. Like I said in my other posts, 37% isn't bad at all. Especially for a PF. But he really doesn't bring anything else to the table. If you are going to give 20 million a year to a player that does nothing well except shoot 3 pointers, that player better damn well be elite at shooting 3 pointers. Ryan Anderson is streaky, but averages as just merely good.
If RA doesn't shoot as high as his career high this year just based on the best looks he's ever had in his career then I'd probably agree here. We'll just have to see at the end of the year
The true measure of how well MDA makes use of Anderson's elite shooting is how many open drives Harden gets and alley-pop slams Capela gets rolling when Anderson is occupying a defender in our system. The lane is more open this year, and that is DIRECTLY related to Ryno being on the court. Don't be so simplistic Hatas to miss a big improvemen that is right in front of you.
I think even at 37% Ryan Anderson will still break even and possibly be a slight net positive on the court.....but to earn his money, he's gotta be at or over 40%. I think when we look back on this contract in a year, we'll wish the team had another amnesty to use. 80 mil for a one dimensional 3 point shooter who isn't shooting at an elite rate is absolutely brutal. We'll have to see though, maybe he can turn things around and get back to how he shot the ball in 2013 rather than how he's shot the ball since.
Can't be worse than Ennis. I would rather have an unconscious player going through the motions (Beasley) over a scared player playing scared.
We need a small forward to replace ineffective Arisa too. Arisa shouldn't be a starting small forward with his performance last season. He seems to just keep going under the radar amongst critics as his offense, defense and assists are mediocre at best.
