Hmmmm, it looks like Pepe didn't really play that much in the NBA... A total free agent and another Argentinian ! nor this year in Spain. Maybe he is not all that good. This guy can be bought out, and he is NBA ready for an Adelman type of team DD
How weird, I was actually looking at some videos of him the other day on Youtube. From what I've seen, that guy is a tremendous passer. Did you see that behind the back pass from the top of the key? Ri freaking diculous! http://youtube.com/watch?v=2RDTF7Kgr4c
I want a guy who can pass like this, just watch these PnR passes to cutters..... <object width="425" height="355"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/cEpqq6I3WB4&hl=en"></param><param name="wmode" value="transparent"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/cEpqq6I3WB4&hl=en" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" wmode="transparent" width="425" height="355"></embed></object>
Scola has been great for us but it's not like he was a gamble... he was only the best player in the world not on an NBA team. I would be cautious of other international players, though. There have been many who have failed in the league, some at PG. I guess its kind of like watching college players (even though they are pros), the game just doesn't always translate.
Euroleague is a parallel competition, the NBA in Spain is the ACB, in where both Prigioni and Sanchez lead the league in assists. Top Five in Assists in ACB Regular season. (currently 28 games played) Pos------PLAYER------------------TOTAL----AVERAGE- 1 Sánchez, Pepe (BAR) 145 5,18 2 Rodríguez, Javi (MAN) 141 5,04 3 Williams, Shammond (PAM) 117 4,68 4 Prigioni, Pablo (TAU) 130 4,64 5 Rubio, Ricky (DKV) 118 4,21 ...
I see, but does Sanchez even start for his team? Or play major minutes? Can you post his ACB stats? DD
Barcelona actually plays with two types of PG, Sanchez as a half court passing PG and Jaka Lakovick as a scoring PG, both share half the ammount of minutes (40) Pepe plays around 20 and Lakovick plays around 26 because he also plays SG. At the end of games Sanchez plays at PG and shares the floor with Lakovick at SG.
This is one of the most recent Pepe Highlights with Barcelona against they nemesis Real Madrid in quarter finals of the euroleague (elimination chart like NBA PO but at best of 3 games). http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=J_sbMBG8hWg
Maybe it just seems to easy for me, but i'll try. Artest is a way better player than shane. No one can argue and they can talk glue all they want. Artest is everything they need between Yao and tracy. He's tough, aggressive and a little crazy. Is it any different than maxwell? Its ok to have 1 crazy guy, u just cabt have a team full. If it cost shane, rafer and head or novak, do it. Give him 4yrs 10m per and mive on. The pg. Turn it over to Brooks and Back him up with Sasha(from la) or Udrih. Late in the game, Tracy,Artest, or Yao will initiate the offense. So having a guy that can attack creases like brooks or dead eye shooters like sasha or beno is a must. A big swing guy. Posey would ve ideal because he defends and hits the 3. Green coming back, davis from miami, or as earlier stated shane is still on the team off the bench. Guves the team flexibility, unlike last night to play bigger players at the 1,2,3. If we get posey or keep shane, at times since tracy plays the pg in offense, u could play big. Tracy,Artest, and Posey/battier/davis allows u to be long and atheletic on the perimeter. Backup center. The rox should have 2 guys in this spot. 1 should be traditiinal post type like Kandiman and the other should be mobile like elson and mccoy. The rox have just become deeper and more atheletic. They have also guarded themselves against t-mac's 10 games missed and the mismatches when yao goes out. The scola/landry combo is solid, but if someone wants to offer landry more than 3.5m, they should let him walk.
I would love to bring VSpan back but I've got a feeling he's got a gentlemen's agreement with the Spurs that if he comes back to the NBA, they get first shot at signing him.
The Spurs already own the rights to sign him, right? I think it's only for this season, though. If I'm not mistaken, he can opt out of after this season. Man, I'd love to see him back in a Rox uniform. Of course, I'm not sure how it worked. Perhaps Dakota can explain it more thoroughly.
The Spurs have no rights to him whatsoever, he was released in a buyout, Billy is a complete free agent if he opts out of his Panathanaikos contract. DD
DaDa - If we wanted to emulate the Spurs...we should have gotten "our" Bruce Bowen (or Bowen's successor Udoka) for half an MLE as they did. We can slice and dice it until hell freezes over. The cold hard reality is what I've posted before the last fan left the TC after Game 7 vs the Jazz....If ANY 2 of 3 of Hayes, Battier and Alston are starters, the Rockets are another 1st round exit. Now, if your new focus (remembering all of your "they have enough talent" posts) is Alston...let me provide the next hard reality. The Rockets are not upgrading to the level of Tony Parker, CP3, Derron Williams, Jason Kidd, Baron Davis, or Steve Nash without trading Battier. And that's not counting that Derrick Rose will very likely be a Grizz or Sonic. Re-stated...one of Battier or Alston has to go. Unless you think some combination of Alston, BJax, Head and Brooks nets you a world-class PG....that IMO is the ice-cold shower reality. Alston IMHO is not the single failure source...and this board can b**** about Alston until next training camp...but given the cards the Rockets were dealt (or dealt to themselves), trading Battier is your only PG upgrade solution. Not trying to nasty but....Better get prepared to deal with it. It's reality.
I'm sorry? We traded a #8 Lottery pick and can't combine that with Jackson's expiring to produce a much better PG than Alston? Sounds to me like you're proving my point that MEM screwed us in the trade.

I am still impressed and like his play even though in limited minutes. He showed great potential with those plays and I am still wondering what happened between him and JVG. I am happy we got Scola for him but if Morey could get him back for another chance with Adelman, I am all for it. He has skills and plays on par with Nash, Parker and CP3 type of PG. Does he have any buddies when he was with the Rockets that could perhaps convince him to give us another shot?
I agree. The guy was terrific. It is a shame that he didn't get more playing time. I'm glad we got Scola, but if there's any way to get him back, like you stated, I'm all for it.
Just look at the 3 minute mark in that video clip and THAT is exactly what this team is missing, you want Novak and Head to be successful, get a penetrating PG that can set the table. That alone makes this team a championship contender.....regardless of anyone saying any different. This team just needs a 2nd penetrating option.....nothing more.... DD
