They wouldn't have won any championships. Both Nash and Dirk have become better with the offense taylored to their games instead of being part of a bigger picture. I also think the mavs believe that Dirk provides that post game needed to win a championship, he doesn't.

You won't win it all with him or Stoudemire as you're main post options. They just aren't talented post players, they're shooting/slashing fowards who happen to be tall.

But this thread is about PG's and i think the rockets, despite they're glaring need, are reluctant to seek a big time PG. I don't think they wan't to spend the money it takes to get a good one when they can get a pretty good wing player for alot cheaper.

Williams was waived by a NBDL team. He's now given up basketball for work as a corporate guest speaker.

I was just wondering. T-Mac likes to handle the ball. Would he be willing to give it up or can he even play like that? He's been quoted saying he's most effective when the ball is in his hand. We've seen how well he plays off the ball, basically standing on the perimeter.

Would any PG upgrade be regulated to Rafer duties, ie bring the ball up and pass to T-Mac?

They just need to get the best player possible not really a PG even though they are hard to find that will match to what Adelman is trying to do. Even another back up center or Josh Childress type wing will work.

I thought Francis looked good in a few games this year, notably the win at Phoenix. I see no reason why he can't make it back physically. He's still a low bball IQ player, but if he at least learns the offense over the summer then he should be able to help us off the bench next season. He can't be any dumber than Head. I hope...

Yes, this team is better with Rafer right now, simply because without Rafer we are forced to go to Luther more. When Rafer comes back, Luther is the guy that should get his minutes cut in favor of Aaron Brooks. The ONLY, and I mean ONLY, thing Luther can do is catch and shoot. And he is streaky at best there.

Can we try T-mac for PG? I mean JVG and RA calls T-mac an amazing passer. Hes got the skills, and the handles.

I have been saying that for 2 years......essentially that is what he is for a good portion of the game, but you need to put ANOTHER penetrating player in there with him to help when teams double Tmac hard.

In this way, Rafer still will not fit because he is not a good shooter!

We should try to sign Calderon. I don't think he will stay with the raptors since he comes off the bench now. If we don't sign him, I think the lakers will get him.

Rockets can only offer less than the MLE. Lakers might have their full MLE. Raptors will easily match any MLE offers since he's restricted.

Calderon deserves more than MLE. If the rockets cannot offer it, the lakers will!

To me, from the start the big difference maker was Baron Davis has legit handles. If both were on the same team easily Baron plays point and Francis the 2.

Can say a "proper" injury diagnostic revealed why Francis was slower and that he stands a chance at regaining some of his form. Though it doesnt fully explain his prior 2 seasons...

It does if his knee bothered him for both of those seasons......

I am as sceptical as the next guy, but if they really DID find the source of his pain, and he comes back pain free.....and dedicated, it could be a massive boost.

Nothing to count on, but something to keep your eyes on for sure.

Jose Calderon should get at least 8 million per year. I wouldn't be surprised if he's given a contract similar to Mo Williams', because he's better. Somebody's gonna give him a 5 year 50 mil+ contract. We'll see.

I think its totally unfair to compare Reefer (no typo ;) ) to those other elite point guards. I agree that Rafer is a solid point guard who can make solid and safe decisions with the ball; but the one thing that he lacks that most starting point guards on playoff contending teams is that he can't penetrate the defense as effectively, and in the cases that he does get into the paint, he usuallly just does those damn tear drops. A good point (Rafer is a solid one) can establish their "will" on the game through their dribbling and penetration but Rafer just can't do that. No point guard should average an abysmal 40% shooting, and that is enough to prove that we will have a hard time winning in the playoffs with Rafer as our starting point guard.

When has Rafer ever averaged 40% as a Rocket?

add in a atheltic wing player, that can spread the floor, cut to the paint and able to pass the ball effectively, then rox can play without a true PG or slide Tmac over to PG duties. Thats easier to find then to get an elite or even a good PG.
