Well, you may have seen the Argentina NT team play more than i have but when i saw them play there was a heck of alot more motion in their offense than the Spurs'. I've seen Flex offense and they aren't doing it justice. I was referring to when the plays break down though, which they often do in the NBA (or never even start). They often isolate their big man in the post and spot up. The Spurs have a similar approach and it is wacky to think that the Spurs wouldn't take a player like Mcgrady unless it was ONLY for financial reasons or a bad trade proposal.
the problem is, i just don't see great PG's being available for trade, and especially not for what the rockets can offer. i don't underestimate the value of $10M in expirings and a young replacement in brooks, but i just don't see teams with PG's better than rafer looking to move those players.
Good point DD. But I think it's been pretty evident since last year's playoff exit against Utah. Rafer is not the PG we need to run our offense.
I don't think ANYONE would take McGrady because of his contract. He is not worth $20 mil a year anymore.
Oh come on, someone would want him he is still one of the top 20 players in the league and is only 29....and I think only 2 more years on his contract, so why not? Team Salary cap info DD
NBDL. At least for part of the season. Haven't seen him recently. Looking at Knicks roster in a min. But Rafer over him I think
Yeah, its not like he's the only one getting overpaid in the league and we're lucky to have the most underpaid player not on a rookie contract in yao. Sometimes i think people let their distaste for a player cloud their judgement for how good they are. For instance, i despise Stoudemire's lack of defense and post game but he has without question been the best player in the league since the Shaq trade.
He is an old 29 years old. He is a player that has injury concerns every year. What team is going to give him $20 million per in 2 years? I'm not saying he isn't a good player because he clearly is. I am just saying he is not good enough to warrant the contract he is on. Think about this. Lets say Jose Calderon gets a contract that pays him $8 million per season. A player like Jason Richardson will make $12 million next year. Which would you rather have, Calderon and Richardson or Tracy McGrady? Now don't take this to mean I think that either Calderon or Richardson is a better player than McGrady because they aren't. But you need to take into account what kind of players we could have if McGrady didn't command such a big contract. FYI, McGrady makes and will make the same as Manu Ginobili and Tony Parker COMBINED for this year and the next 2 years.
We won the Tracy Mcgrady. Steve Francis, Mobley and fillers for Mcgrady thats a steal.I would do that deal all over again.I cant remember if Mike Miller was still there in orlando but to bad we couldn't swing a deal to get him too.
Yes, because of who you were trading for him back then, but now let me show you a couple of players that make less money than TMac. Dirk Nowitzki Amare Stoudemire LeBron James Dwight Howard And he makes exactly the same ammount as Duncan.
Haven't read any of the posts in this thread, but I definitely think that it would be great to have a point guard like Steve Nash, I think that sounds like what you want.
you're right, i was more so thinking about how much Centers are usually wildly overpaid because it is rare to have a good one. In terms of other C's getting wildly underpaid, there are alot of players who are much worse than him making more or around the same amount. Perimeter players generally don't get overpaid. All of you guys are making some good points about tmac. Lets keep in mind that when he initially signed the contract he was worth the money, before he started to show this dramatic decline. Let's also keep in mind that the contracts being compared to his are steals. As DD said, we have a top 20 player and he's making max money (woopty doo). Most teams would kill for that, many teams have much worse contracts on their hands. The rockets really don't have salary problems and you can't compare them to the Spurs because EVERYONE on that team would be making more money if they were on different teams. And no...Jason Richardson and Calderon don't add up to tmac, maybe if they were in the same body.
you are 100% correct, and Mike miller was gone already. i think all that we have to do is wait to next year and try and pry mike miller from the grizzles and maybe we can pull one of there pg's away from there
LOL - Well that would be great but I would just settle for one that can run a PnR....and shoot a little bit better. It is annoying to see Scola roll and Rafer ignore him...time and time again.... If you are playing an offense that does not have a post presence you have to hit the cutter and force the defense to rotate, creating open shots for eveyrone. Tonight, I am going to try to count the number of times someone sets a pick for Rafer and he ignores it, or doesn't hit the cutter...... DD
I just think that I'm not worried about yao adapting to my pg. If he's a '' great player'' then he can play with him Duncan has played with avery johnson and now parker. Neither are 3pt threats yet both have won rings. I actually think its beneficial to playing with a penetrator. That one reason why I think they should just play Brooks. Getting bobby j was a bad move. If nothing else, his growth was stunted on a team going nowhere. I remember Cassell having up and down games as a rookie. I also remember when Rudy jus let him play and kept scott brooks on the bench. BJ is a downhill player while brooks is one of the couple of rox with upside. The Luther experiment was dead when they drafted a guy that never play pg in his life. He's a tweener that can't get his own shot which isn't good. Crunchtime playing experience for Brooks is very valuable. Might as well stop fooling ourselves and play the young guy now. In the offseason go get Artest and get ready to roll. Back Brooks up with Beno, a deadeye, hopefully we keep shane when we get artest, but if not, swing guys are everywhere. Get rid of rafer for a 2nd just for salary releif and see where it goes. U can only go so far with this cast of non penetrating, non playmaking, standstill players. The truth hurts, but that the truth.
i would love to get Andre Miller in the os but i would also be willing to go with Mike Miller and Steve Blake. he can shoot and he is a pass first PG who can knock em down
bobby for mike miller and KYLE LOWRY... or critten or ... conley , any pgs, i like, except for navaro.
So some people knock players on losing teams, yet the rox should add another soft wing with a terrible playoff history and another journeyman pg? Go figure.
