We need a hybrid 1/2 (Mad Max) instead of a conventional PG

As I said earlier, Canaan and Beverley should play major (but different) ROLES on this year's squad. They and their place on the Rockets will evolve over time. What I'm saying...the original point, is that I think it would be better for the HOUSTON ROCKETS to go after this type of player.

Since you guys have already thrown the thread off into this direction, let me ask you something. Do you really think the Rockets are better off with that salary/cap money going to Jeremy Lin? Do you really think we have that margin of error to win an NBA title?

This guy might take exception to that claim:

I was replying to him....and this is about what might very well be best for now. Just because you have no point of reference, don't start talking $hit to me, psychofant.

I asked for ideas of similar players before you guys hijacked my thread.

Who in your opinion should we go after? All you've done is state we have a need for a combo guard, yet failed to name any current options. Who would you go after?

If he doesnt develop any further, then no, but he displayed steady improvement in his shooting after coming off an injury affected first part of last season, there is no reason to think he won't develop, but the situation has changed dramatically and I don't like the 8m hit. Money could be spent elsewhere, but as far as decent starting PG's its hard to find them much lower than that, Lowry's contract relatively is a huge bargain

I thought going into this, it would be more about the dog in Maxwell than anything. That is what I would like, a guy on the squad preferably getting considerable minutes as a starter who has that "it" factor about them. The factor where you think that the guy is mental in some way.

Nope. Jordan knows Maxwell guarded him better

That's a good point....at least an EDGE that every player on the court is aware of....respect.

Lin is a combo guard and nobody has forgotten it except maybe the OP. :) He's one of the bigger PG's with size almost that of an SG. He can shoot and penetrate, he can handle, he can pass. His speed as a PG is average and is one of the fastest for an SG. His weight is even closer to that of an SG than a PG. I'll say, let's watch first how effective he is this season or at least by half of the season before deciding to trade him for a better fit. He's a Rocket and that's reason enough to give him a chance. Last season, he proved it time and time again. This time, expectations are higher and if he doesn't do it then it's time to look for another.

Another guy that doesn't bring the D like the other two did, but would probably fit the bill to a certain extent is Jamal Crawford.

It is easy, change LIN's name to Michael Jackson plus a facial surgery.

I actually had the same thought but rejected it. Why? Because I took an honest look at Lin the basketball player. Ideal height, quick first step, fast, decent court vision, hobbled by Asik's inability to catch a pass, intelligent, mature, sturdy of build, a P/R monster, great shooting form ... Nothing is needed other than practice and coaching. It is a physical and skill package that a team does not give up on quickly. Add in the steady improvement throughout the season and I discarded any notion that he will be traded. Perhaps you should also.

Canaan will be one lucky rookie if he does not get cut before the end of the season to make way for a veteran who can contribute. He is a rookie who is short, slow and cannot finish at the rim. Point guards like that are a dime a dozen in the NBA. And because he is no taller than I am he has absolutely no future as a combo or SG. The truth hurts homers. Get serious please.

Isn't that what most Lin fans are doing? Linsanity is OVER! Now we're stuck with an over hyped scrub. Maxwell was a beast and a headcase. The guy never backed down from a challenge and guarded the best of them. Watching Beverly do work on westbrook last playoffs made me feel like he has that potential. He definitely has the toughness. Great points Plowman!
