Not to take away what these players did, but when you win championships, it creates many more opportunities to be "clutch". After all, Mobley may very well also drain the three that Elie made to send Phoenix home back in 94. But it can't happen when you're in the lottery all the time. What I'm trying to say is, don't discount our players when they are never given the opportunity. They may very well be able to make the clutch shots in the final moments of playoff games. And quite frankly, a lot of it is luck. Elie, Horry, and Smith all shot below 50% from 3pt range in our championship years. Surely you don't believe that they have some magical ability to make 100% 3s at the end of close games. Which they lack during "non clutch" situations. Also, they only true clutch player we had on our championship teams was Hakeem. Maybe Drexler to a certain extent, but Hakeem is the guy with the ball down the stretch, every single time. Now, if you're talking about a last-second shot, that's different. You're more likely going to want a penetrator. Personally, I think both Cat and JJ can handle the responsibility in addition to Francis. But in all other situations, Yao will HAVE to be our clutch player, or this team will not smell championships for a long time.
I know concentrating on the playoffs now is the priority. But for next season, what if the Rockets traded Maurice Taylor, Eric Piatkowski, and B. Nachbar for Keith Van Horn? Wouldn't Van Horn's added offense offset any shortcomings of Mo Taylor? Just a thought.
How can you put Clutch and Van Horn in the same sentence. He hasn't been clutch since his days at Utah.. Remember this is the same guy that had no heart in NJ so they got rid of him after his beautiful play off performances. Mo Taylor has been great coming off the bench and scoring which we need him to do. it would be a bad move to get van horn over Mo Taylor.
Oh yeah Mo's Shortcomings are his rebounding. which Van Horn does not really help out too much. he is a small forward playing PF if that.
