Hey Jeff I get what you're saying but have you ever considered what Yao had to face. I'll tell you it has to be much worse. Stoudemire came out of HS, well, Yao came from another country. He had to leave all his friends and most of his family, adjust to a new lifestyle, learn a new language, eat different food and all that. On top of that, think about this. Had Amare not become a decent player most people wouldn't have cared, simply because he wasn't expect to become a great player. All the attention was on Yao, JWill and Mike Jr. Yao was supposed to come in and carry the Rox which didn't have even a slight inside presence on offence while Amare had Marion. My point is, my props to Stoudemire, but if you think nobody on this board cuts him a break, how many people cut Yao a break? They're saying he should be HOF and would suck if he doesn't get the ring. Well, he was supposed to be a bust when he first came in the league remember?

I thought we were debating over "who is the ROY". How did this thread turn into "which rookie overcame the most adversity"?

This is a completely different debate in my opinion.

When you deliberate over what Mmarbury said you do nothing but give it credit. Have you never said "Hakeem was better than Russell or Wilt"? I know that I have and that is my opinion. Some of you guys just have to complainabout something or other, just chill

    UT,

I never said that. You can not compare the Dream vs Wilt since they played in entirely different eras.

I don't know about the rest of the board, but, as for me, I don't hate anyone or any team. I enjoy basketball as a sport ... as entertainment ... not as a religion. That is not to say that I don't get irritated by bad calls or bad play or poor sportsmanship, but I don't fixate. Oh, I'll continue to root against the Jazz, Lakers, Suns, etc. and for the Rockets, but, hate? No.

Marbury is ridiculous. He dishes out, but can't take it.

[1] He said that comparing Amare Stoudemire to Kevin Garnett is like comparing Michael Jordan to Mario Elie. This after the Suns lost to the Timberwolves despite Stoudemire's 38 and 14 compared to Garnett's 22 and 14.

[2] He called out Francis during their game at Compaq Center claiming to be the real all star who didn't need to be voted on by fans.

[3] He said what he said about the real basketball minds knowing that Stoudemire is the real ROY, even though numbers and performance put them neck and neck at best (with Yao clearly edging him out despite not being sufficiently involved).

[4] But the best thing is Marbury's reaction when Richard Jefferson of the Nets called him out by foolishly claiming that neither Marbury nor Marion would have made the All Star team this year if not for Stoudemire. Starbury went ballistic.

The Suns are a team that the Rockets will have to compete with this year and for the next several years.

Stoudemire and Yao are both phenomenal, but only Yao has the potential to change the game. The Rockets brought both Yao and Stoudemire in for work outs (one of the few teams to have that opportunity), and they picked the one who was 10 inches taller. They made the right decision, but if they'd have listened to all those other "experts", they'd have picked Jay Williams or Mike Dunlevy or Drew Gooden. Then they'd look really stupid. Hardly a bold prediction, but it's going to be another Co-Rookie of the Year deal with Yao and Amare sharing the honors.

    marbury:
wonder why people don't like you and will never vote you into the all-star game?
you are a fool. you think by putting down other players, such garnett, yao and francis, that you will gain respect from players, media and fans. your actions just irritating them more.
how many times have marbury seen yao plays? 4 times? dumb people say dumb things.

yao fans: please disregard what this imbecile says. it's not worth it.

Marbury is a credible talent evaluator? It's not even close. :D

And no, we shouldn't slack on our hatred toward the Lakers and the Jazz. You are welcome to add the Suns into your hating list.

Why are you so obsessed with who the Rockets hate? We will always hate your beloved John Stockton and Karl Malone. If you want sympathy for the old folks you have come to the wrong place. The Jazzholes are still number one Jamalcc.

Hey don, I probably hate Utah as much as anybody, but I don't think you're really being fair. Utah's the type of team that everybody loves to hate but have to respect. Malone and Stockton are probably the best players (top 50 in the NBA) never to win a ring, thanks to MJ and you have to respect that. Their team plays a great team game even with their diminishing talents. The Suns however, thanks to Marbury fat trap, are the team that everybody loves to hate AND have no respect for. That's very different from Utah.

I think you guys just misunderstood Marbury.

About his claim "being the real all star who didn't need to be voted on by fans. " , he is right because only starters are voted on by fans and obviously he is not.

About his claim of the comparasion between Yao and Stoudemire "not even close", he is right because Yao leads in almost all the categories except rebounds so far. That is "not even close" for sure.

About his claim "A.S would be the ROY", he might be right too 'cause that could be the only reward that SUNs could get and besides, Rockets draft Yao for Championship instead of ROY.

So don't be too hard on Marbury. I can sense something good from his words. ;) :p

Because 18-year old kids are ill-prepared to handle the fame and fortune that come with being a NBA star....

And FYI, going to war defending our country is an obligation of every American citizen. Playing in the NBA right out of high school is not.

Going to war is an obligation for an 18 year old kid, but it's not ok for a kid to come out at 18 to play ball and make a ton of money because he may not be old enough to handle the fame and fortune? Give me a break. We're not talking about a five year old boy FYI!

 ...well. back to the base of this thread. I dont hate the Suns, never really had a reason to.

ALways a Laker, Blazer, Jazz, and Mav hater. I just cant stand those teams.

The suns...I cant think of any games in the past that have made me want to hate them. They have an awesome rookie, i will give them that.

Sorry, Easy, I am not a lawyer.

I know that if my enemy or competitors say something bad on me, I would feel happy 'cause they are either jealous or feel threatened from me.

So next time when whoever is competing with Rockets says something bad on Rockets or Yao, just enjoy the threat you give it to them or those that they don't have. :D
