Wow, very impressive video. I like the way he moves (no homo, that's what she said, etc). He has that deceptively quick jump that doesn't take a lot of wind up that great shot blockers have. And yes something about his blocking form does remind me of that piece of Hakeem's game.

How can the Rockets ignore stuff like this and take the safe pick over a high upside guy?

    We need length and shotblocking.

I am less and less impressed with their picking in the draft.....when you have Joey Dorsey as a can't miss...well....

You had me interested in the cat before the draft, OMR. Turns out that you were right on target, based on his early play. Kudos!

(and yes, I wish we'd nabbed him!)

Poor excuse to defend the Rockets front office. In recent years, aside from a couple picks they have been awfully meh. If that's the case, then they're just blind.

I do remember ready articles quoting Rockets management (I think it was Morey) who talked up Dorsey like he was a solid pick. They said he was the anchor of the #1 defensive team in college. Now, I liked what I saw too. I don't think he lacked in potential, talent, and raw athleticism...those weren't his issues.

Sanders is not a star player yet. Kelvin Cato could look good every now and then also.

lol i'd like to see a quote of someone calling dorsey a can't miss.

either way i do agree that our drafting has been overrated. we struck gold with landry and brooks, but outside of that we've only had chase. hopefully, chase can get his shot back or that 6 million we spent on 2nd round picks will be worth very little. also, it's pretty disappointing that our first round pick is in the D league and not really looking like he will have a place on the roster this year or next year...unless we trade scola.

outside of that...did anyone get to watch how sanders was on man defense?

3 years 3 draft picks that can contribute. That's a pretty good record, robbie.

As for Patterson and Sanders, we don't really know what we have until the 2nd year usually.

There were some players on the All-rookie team 4-5 years ago, that look horrible today(e.g. Adam Morrison, Luther Head, Craig Smith, Rudy Fernandez). Some rookies get 1-2 great games and then fade away.

While other guys didn't look so hot and didn't get select for the All-rookie team, but they are starters or good bench players.(e.g. Monta Ellis, David Lee, Devin Harris, Gilbert Arenas, George Hill, Aaron Brooks, Corey Brewer).

One or two break out games and summer league is too small a sample size.

Let me go on record as stating Sanders will only get better. Remember he was a project and still is. Watch the kid play he still looks lost at times. His athleticism and talent is what keeps him competitive.

I am not trying to come on here and so I told you so. There were many others on this board hyping Sanders before the draft. Also I am the guy who liked Vspan more than Alston and said Dorsey at that time of the trade was better than Hill. (Although people forget to mention I said Dorsey's biggest problem is he was dumber than dumb). Clearly Hill is better than Dorsey now. Especially in his demeanor. But I did watch more film on Sanders than most and I think most would have said the same thing if they had watched as much of Sanders at the end of last year.

What I think separates Sanders from others drafted ahead of him is his passion to be better. He loves the game but he is not this arrogant athlete who thinks the game owes him something. He is humble yet hungry. If you add that with a natural talent and awesome reach I just do not see this kid doing anything but getting better.

That is not statement against Patterson. I admit before the draft I wasn't impressed as much with Patterson but I hadn't watched nearly as much film. I have to say I undervalued Patterson and I now think he was the best pick at the 14th not named Sanders by far. I think he will contribute in this league for a long time. So I am not down on Patterson at all. In fact I love the kids attitude and I see a lot of potential. In the end he is a Rocket and I am Rocket fan first. But if it was my choice today I would still probably pick Sanders.

The way they gushed about him, sure seemed like it.

    "Most NBA ready big, defensively".....

I just can't believe they ignored the need for a big man/center with Yao's health and went with the safe pick...

Meh, I just wanted them to take a center like Sanders or Whiteside...

He is one heck of a defender and rebounder, if you have been watching his games that is...

When the guy plays more than 15 minutes a game, he puts up decent production.

And like you said, he is the most NBA ready DEFENSIVELY. That doesn't make him a can't miss.

They didn't say can't miss but they did say he was the prototype center of the future. Yes that was pretty close to Morey's words. Prototype Center, what the league is moving toward. That kinda sounds like a can't miss prospect.

I didn't know anything about Dorsey and after I watched all the film I could find I jumped on that bandwagon. I thought WOW we got the steal of the draft. But like me, Morey neglected to check his bball IQ. He was the r****ded stepchild of Dumb and Dumber. He still has talent and he still had moments in summer league and moments in the season that made Morey look brilliant for a second.

Yeah, because teams never hype their own draft picks (though I still don't remember anyone saying he was a "can't miss").

I guess Morey should have said, "Well, we had to take someone, so I figured, you know, f--k it. Dorsey."

If you recall we did a lot of manuevering to get that early pick in the second round. I would think he had his eye on Dorsey the whole time.

Also if you want to check the board you'll see I wanted Batum and we could have had him and instead elected to get Dorsey and Greene. In hindsight I think we take Batum over Dorsey and Greene although Greene got us Artest.

Stop saying we overrate Morey's drafting, you can't possibly ask to do better than he has done. With the cards he has been dealt, he has done a great job.

Dorsey’s problem, to my perception, was his work ethic, he looked like the kind of guy who took it for granted after getting drafted, they might be harsh words and completely out of base but I think he has the attitude of a mediocre person.
