It's hard to find a 30 ppg shooting guard like Kevin Martin with defense. If you know anyone who scores 30 per game with outstanding defense, name it. And after that please describe your plan to get him for t-mac+landry. We got Martin, Hill, Jeffries plus 2 first rounders.

that big pg we need is willie warren, warren is next years evans mark my words

heres what i would do, Id sign brad miller using part of mle, id draft warren with 11th pick and trade brooks/battier/both ny picks for bosh

    lowry/warren
    martin/taylor
    ariza/cbud
    bosh/scola/hill
    yao/miller/armstrong

id not pick up the option for hayes, id cut anderson to make room for an extra roster spot, id let armstrong walk possibly

I think Morey and Adelman know more about the game than you do. Also, you need to know more about grammar because your run on sentences go for days.

I am speculating, but I believe that when Yao is back Martin's defense will look much because he will funnel his man into the lane. Likewise, I would expect the Rockets to get a very good back center than blocks shots.

As for Brooks, I honestly think he will eventually be traded. Prior to getting Martin the Rockets really needed Brook's scoring and could excuse his defense with Battier and Ariza on the floor. Now his strength is not imperative.

Also, I have noticed that the point guards Morey has coveted are not anything like Brooks; look at Rubio, Nash, Rondo, etc.

I would not worry too much about it. Artest is not an elite offensive player even if guarded by Martin. Furthermore, if the Lakers put Artest on Martin, Martin will go off, he is too quick

We may have the worst defensive backcourt, but we probably have the best offensive backcourt in the game.

A perimeter players' defensive impact (or lack thereof) isn't always illustrated in his counterpart's production. Your comparison of Martin to Lebron proves that point.

I'm sure we all know Lebron is a better defender than Martin.
    thank you

Last night, which everyone is overeacting too....

Our guards scored 51, and Utah's scored 46....we won that battle....

Mayhaps we need to look deeper at the problem?

64 minutes versus 54 minutes. And their guards shot 17-22 from the field and also out-assisted ours 16 to 8.

I don't know how anyone can watch that game and come away from it thinking our guards outplayed their's. Deron Williams was far and away the best player on the court.

Word! I can't believe some people are actually cherrypicking stats to prove our guards were better last night. Durva'boy, tell 'em!

Saying the guards got outplayed by the Utah guards is one thing, saying that the guards got outplayed was the main reason the defense sucked is another. Honestly, I really can't put the blame on any one person on that defense- pretty much everyone played bad, so we shouldn't solely blame the guards.

I didn't say we outplayed them, but people are overeacting about the disparity.

And to see that we actually outscored them was a bit of a shock to me, as I am sure it is to most people.

Deron Williams was magnificent, he is better than anyone on our team, so I am not surprised that he went off, sometimes great players do that.

And the assists are not as big of a factor, because in a high post offense, or read and react everyone is an assister, in the Jazz offense, it is primarily Williams responsibility.

    Big difference in opportunity.

When the frontcourt allows Boozer and Millsap to go 16-19, add in CJ Miles 4-5 and its 20-24, the assists are going to rack up quickly.

(Miles was the SF, Matthews the SG. So really their guards outscored ours 53-51 anyway...minutes about even :( )

Just a terrible defensive game all around, need to just consider it an exhibition game all together and move on.

And all of those teams are inconsistent performers. Strong defense can be relied upon to show up nearly every night while offense almost always ebbs and flows. You must have a balance between the two but in the end defense is more important. That said, our overall team defense should improve drastically with the presence of Yao in the middle. In order to win a championship we are going to need great team defense because to many of our major players are weak defenders individually.

He's great, but a lot of his damage comes from screens being set on his man. That's not the case w/Martin and Brooks. It's not really a one-on-one battle when one guy is using screens and the other isn't. The defensive ineptitude of Martin and Brooks has been greatly exaggerated around here. I suspect a lot of it is from McGrady and Yao fans.

One of the worst, but the worst...I have to scratch my head on that one.

You got the Suns, Warriors, Grizzlies, Nets, and Kings.

Adelman pretty much called out the attention to detail guarding their man. In this case Adelman talked about guarding Deron Williams which was AB's job.

“Deron Williams really got them going,” Adelman said. “He made every shot he took, it seemed like. You have to have the attitude that you’ve got to play your guy better than that, and we didn’t do it." http://www.chron.com/disp/story.mpl/hotstories/6889657.html

At some point players have to take up the challenge of guarding their man and not defend like help defense is given. It seems like if their man gets by them, they just say oh well maybe next time. The lack of accountability and the deterioration of the attention to detail on the defensive end needs to be fixed. The team, not just the guards, seem too content in just scoring.
