In the post?... Martin weighs 150 pounds while Artest is 350

Artest. If the Lakers (or Ron on his own) decide to run their offense through Artest to abuse Kevin Martin, that's a win for the Rockets.

    Identiy-LESS

I don't know if we have the worst defensive backcourt in the league, but this much I do know, we have NO IDENTITY.

Whatever modicum of defensive identity we had left is now out the window.

Forget the one on one matchups, even our TEAM D sucks. There's no weakside help. No rotation. No nothing.

Yes, we're missing a shotblocker in Yao, but even so, we ain't going to win many 110+ pt games. I'm sorry, but as much as the 30-30-30 night was historic, honestly, how much can we count on that happenning night in night out???

We're not the SUNS. And even then, it's not a proven championship philosophy.

I'm just steaming at how unbalanced this whole team has become. It's like the identity of this team is no longer defense or anything. We're never going to be the most prolific scoring team in the league (esp. if Yao returns and we go back to a "work the clock" post game). Meanwhile, without good balance between offensive and defensive prowess, we're just mediocre at best.

    No basis for consistency.

I hope to God this is just growing pains. But we better get an identity fast!

The Lakers play with two 7-footers in their front-court. If they want to post up Artest all game, they will just be clogging up their paint and the Rockets will be able to send help for Martin.

Not if he gets him in foul trouble.

We may also have the worst frontcourt defense in the league without Battier and Ariza. Part of that will correct itself when Yao comes back. But I'm still weary of what happens when Yao is on the bench. Can we get Deke out of retirement?

Haha Artest in the post. Come on guys, we had him here remember? He's a shot jacker, not a high efficiency post scorer. If Artest wants to try to abuse Martin, that's great for Houston. That means he will dribble the ball on the wing, then hold it, lean his shoulder in and try to either blow by Martin or jack a crazy shot.

So what? Better for Artest to do that at his low efficiency than to let Kobe go crazy.

Kinda like how teams who decide to go out of their way to post up the smaller Aaron Brooks tend to screw up their offense.

You can say that about any player. It won't be good for the Lakers if Martin gets their guys in foul trouble either.

Their are a few shot-blocking 7 footers in the draft, I hope that's Morey's first priority for the pick this year.

Hopefully we won't be the 8th seed next year with a healthy Yao plus a new PF.

You have to get there first.

There is no option for this team available that can be an offensive weapon for us and an elite defender. You have to put the best team together you can and run with it. Would it be better if Kevin Martin were built like Lebron James and played lockdown defense so we could match up with Kobe Bryant? Well yeah, sure it would. It would be better if I got to drive a Lamborghini as well. We all have to make sacrifices.

    Are you Blind Dawg...

The game comes back on at 12. Watch it again.

Almost all of the shots against Martin and Brooks were jumpshots. When Temple and Taylor went in then they started going to the basket. I am not saying they are great defenders. But Utah shot like 90% in the beginning and more than half of those shots were from the perimeter. Noone shoots that good consistently.

This is the same d of last night and hill did torch us at the end going to the basket. So I do agree a taller bigger point guard might help but when that bigger point guard is temple they just burn you. Brooks and martin will give a little on defense but they will more than make up for it on offense. And if Martin had a little more bulk and size he would be Brandon Roy. Those guys aren't available for Carl Landry.

We do need another big Hill and Armstrong aren't going to cut it and Yao probably won't be enough. But between free agency and a draft pick I think we can find someone.
