That trade would suck. The only thing it would do: It would add another overpaid player (Croshere) to the Rockets - then you would have Cato, Rice, Taylor, Croshere, Norris sitting on ridiculous contracts. Francis is way too good to be traded for something like that.
To get in the Laffrenz sweepstakes we would have to consider Griffin, Mobes and/or our own next years #1 (which looks low lotto right now, if we can give it, I am not sure because of the ramifications of the owed Gizzards pick). So something like Griffin and Cato (plius fillers on both sides) might tempt Denver. Let's look at this further: Over the last 2 years here are the numbers: Mobley 19.1 PPG 5.4 RB 2.6 APG 43% FG, 85% FT, 37% 3s Raef__ 13.9 PPG 7.7 RB 2.7 BPG 48% FG, 68% FT, 38% 3s I am not one of the folks complaining too much about Mobley's shooting. To 41% isn't too bad in the few games played this year considering his injury and the crap he has around him right now. I think his 43% clip overage over this year plus last year is much more indicative of him. Compare this with NVE (the best Nugget right now) 41% for this year and for last AND the major limitations to Wahad (brutal shooting--near 35%), Posey (40% shooting, not as terrible, but plays SF anyway) and Leanord (40% shooting, ugly defense and no explosiveness), and it is not to hard to see the MAJOR positive impact Mobley would bring to Denver's guard play and overall offensive effectiveness. In sum, I think it would be a pretty fair trade from both ends. As desperate as I am for us to get a better low post threat and another shotblocker like Raef, I am not sure I would pull the trigger involving Mobley for Raef if no other reason than potential chemistry disruptions.
im not even going to try and explain why we cant and wont trade raef for mobley. its not even worth it. if one of your fellow rocket fans would like to, go ahead. if your gonna just throw stats out there and justify it from our end, thats your loss buddy.
I'll take your word for it that the Nuggets wouldn't consider it given their roster needs. All I was pointing out is there value on the open market isn't that far off. It is not like Raef is like McDyess or anything, Raef is a good player, but not a superstar. Overall, Mobley is among the most valuable 15-20 guards, Raef around the same position among Cs/PFs. While the difference in "market value" for guards/versus C/PFs certainly tweeks it for Raef, certainly not by more than a mid 1st round pick. Again, I don't know if I would trade Mobley for Raef, certainly not if next years #1 had to be part of the deal and especially considering chemistry implications for our young backcourt. I would probably rather part with Griffin.
LaFrentz is a better than average player but is nowhere near a really good player. He strikes no fear in opposing teams. McDyess was a good player that has not won anything, been traded a few times in his short time in the nba. He is not a real franchise player. So lets not make them more valuble than they are. Look at all the trades and signings of players who were resantly injured. Grant Hill, Penny, Glen Rice, Theo Ratliff for example. That risk of reinjury or not being the same player drops their value. Also think back to when Pippen was traded he was still considered one of the best players in the nba that was not happy here. We got a bunch of bench players no stars. When we got Steve we gave up one starter and a bunch of bench players. When we got Clyde and Barkley two top 50 players we gave up no stars. Brand and Rahim were traded for top picks. These are just a few examples of trades that were done that are not one for one. So a few B players are some times equal to an A player. If the rox really wanted to they could put together a package of draft picks and players excluding Steve, Mobley, Mooch, and Griff to get an injured Mcdyess. But thats just IMO
exactly. mobley is the more talented guy and if we had enough big men, id do that trade in a second...but take a second and look at our front court if we made that deal, until dice came back... um...shawnelle scott....and um...oh yeah - scott williams! and...um...hamilton? yeah ok hamilton. and...hmmmm.... i think we could manage double digit boards at least every other game with that lineup. start playing johnson at PF about 10 mpg too.
There is really no deal that would land LaFrentz in Houston. If Nugzfan is consistent with the team's management, and demands Mobley, Francis or Griffin for LaFrentz, then there is no way a deal is possible. Raef LaFrentz just isn't worth any of those players no matter who you throw in with him.
No disrespect to Nugzfan, but he expects to get more than Nuggets management expect. That doesn't mean there are tons of people here who are serious about Langhi and Collier for Lafrentz, lol, but, Nugzfan, Lafrentz is not happy, neither is Van Exel. AUTOMATICALLY, their trade value is down. Remember, if we got Kelvin Cato, Walt Williams, and Carlos Rogers for a supposed "leader, defender, scorer, who can play point forward and get us to the next level" Pippen, then I think Lafrentz can go for a little less than trade value. To say the Rockets can't put together a package for Lafrentz, is inaccurate, because there is such a thing as 3-way trades. If the Nuggets are looking to re-build, then they have to let go of Lafrentz and trade NVE right? Trade Lafrentz for Philadelphia's exception and Corie Blount (just to log some minutes). Then trade NVE to Detroit for their pick from Memphis (expected to be very high) and Chucky Atkins and baggage? A lot of trades can be made, but don't expect to get similar value for Lafrentz or NVE since they've gone public with their comments. Oh yeah, we both know this can all be fixed if you just fire Issel, lol
