I can't comprehend how players think a strike is reasonable, especially in the current climate, but I can understand it. I used to be staunchly pro-owner on this issue, but I've come to realize the error of my ways.

Generally speaking, baseball owners are a bunch of idiots. Its staggering to me that these people, successfull businessmen in the "outside" world, could have made such a hash of running their franchises. Surely if you lose money year after year, as they claim they do, you would curtail your expenses, ie reduce player salaries? Drayton Maclean Jr. gets widely criticized in this city for not signing signing/re-signing free agents or having a payroll to high enough to supposedly win the World Series. If you ask me, he has done a good job of restricting salary growth and remaining competitive, and I laud his efforts, but he is in the minority.

The company I work for remains profitable and competitive (at least so far) and we don't have a salary cap. Don't get me wrong, I am most definitely FOR a salary cap and revenue sharing, but only because it will make the game more equitable among different sized team markets, not to protect the owners from their own ineptitude.

The owners claim that they continuously accept losses becuase they can make their money back when they sell the franchise. Thats funny, in the rest of the world, the value of a business is based on the present value of future cash flows. If all their losses they say they a re making are true, they would have to pay someone to take the team off their hands.
