No. No, no, NO. You don't wait for health to happen, you take actions to prepare for it NOT happening. Have you not learned from the past? I would like to trade McGrady, not because I don't like him or because I think he's awful, I just don't think his gameplay is worth the money he's paid. He's no longer a superstar in my eyes. However, if he stays, I won't be upset. If we have McGrady, I'd also like to keep Alston. The Alston/McGrady backcourt has a lot of chemistry. Is it possible that we can trade some expiring contracts for some high percentage free throw shooting???
I've said this over and over, Rafer would be AMAZING coming of the bench but bottom line is he can't be a starter, the days he plays like a starter are too minute
I feel it will be wonderful to keep most part of current team for next season except trade Luther Head for other player. I say we keep Tmac, Yao, Scola and Landary and Shane. The most important thing for next season is keep them healthy.
Yeah, it would indeed be nice to have the depth to make him a backup. Just curious, who would you see us getting to start in front of Rafer?
I think the best thing the Rockets can do is turn Yao into a couple of assets. Something along the lines of Yao, Rafer, and BJax's expiring to Toronto for Bosh, Bargnani, and Calderon (sign and trade). We are asking for trouble keeping Yao. He is injury prone, cannot effectively guard players with a significant quickness advantage and a jumpshot (like Boozer), and is too easily thwarted by gimmick defenses (like fronting). For the same reason that he is worth a lot to Les, he will be worth a lot to another owner, so he can net you an increase in talent. I doubt Yao gets traded, but I think that is the ROX best shot at multiple titles.
don't trade away Scola/Landry! We've just managed to fill this decade-long PF void and now you're going to trade them away? Scola/Landry--Best PF one-two punch in NBA currently. They will only improve.
Given that at least Yao and/or Mcgrady have been injured for significant portions of every season in which they have been associated with the Houston Rockets what makes you guys so confident that this duo can be successful? ... I have nothing against either of them because I think that they're both great players. However, I don't think the Rockets can be successful as long as they are the team's core and the Rockets will never be able to garner AS-CLOSE-TO-EQUAL trade value for either of them as they will be able to at the present moment. That being said I think the Rockets should really try to shop one of them and preferably Mcgrady.
1) Re-sign Landry. 2) Get a backup for Yao, preferably through the draft. 3) Get a wing player that can score. In order of preference...Maggette, Mike Miller, Childress. I believe Maggette is exactly what we need (though could be difficult to obtain), and as much as I LOVE Childress, I think we need a player like Miller more. I wonder if we could sign and trade for Childress and send them Battier? I'm sure Battier makes a little more than Childress will so maybe they would throw in someone like Acie Law to even it out. 4) Hope for the best when it comes to injuries in the 08-09 season. Doesn't Tmac's contract expire after the 09-10 season? I believe we need to have that offseason in the back of our minds. Who are the available free agents that year? The only one I can recall is Lebron (I think). Since we will have a problem trading Tmac for full value the best we can do is let his contract expire and use that money to sign another all star. Pugs
artest will be a fa right?mqybe we can get him for nothing, imagine him and shane guarding everyones two best players. how many years left does miller have on his deal? we can ship head, woods and some draft picks since memphis wants to cut the pay roll rafer/jackson/brooks tmac/francis yao/scola artest/landry shane/miller/novak
Miller would be amazing but I don't think we can get him. I think reasonably we can get the unhappy Pietrus from Golden State. He wants out.
This can go in any thread really, but I see so many times people post "If yao and tracy are healthy" "Assuming no injuries" etc. Next time you want to post "if YM & TM stay healthy...." you might as well post "if the NBA allowed Luther Head to wear a jet pack and fly up an down the court" - because it's equally unlikely to happen. YM & TM have not survived the last four seasons and they keep getting older and older - I see it as extremely unlikely that they'll ever give you 75 games each in the same year as full-time starters at this point.
I dunno, I expect Yao to be at least as healthy as Shaq and we all know he had injury problems his entire career. Until he figured out how to mail it in for the early season and then play hard near playoff time. T-Mac, he just needs to stay healthy anyway he can.
Mike Miller for our 09 first rounder, Luther Head, and Bobby Jackson. Ron Artest for Shane Battier and Steve Francis. If he's gonna walk, they might as well get something for him, and you can's say no to a player like Battier. Yao/Hayes/Woods Scola/Landry Artest/Novak/Harris McGrady/Miller Alston/Brooks Imagine a lineup of Yao Novak Artest Miller McGrady You simply couldn't double off anyone. But this is nothing but a pipe dream. Keep our rookies unless someone really wants them. If we still have our 08 draft pick, hope the best player available is a center or a combo guard.
Shaq was an ironman his first few seasons going 79+ games playing lots of minutes. In his 8th season he played 40 mpg over 79 games. I doubt Yao ever does that considering the nature of his injuries.
I would like to trade McGrady, not because I don't like him or because I think he's awful, I just don't think his gameplay is worth the money he's paid. He's no longer a superstar in my eyes. Is it possible that we can trade some expiring contracts for some high percentage free throw shooting???[/QUOTE] If you can see that McGrady is not worth the money he's paid, what makes you think GM's can't see it. You can't trade people just because you want them traded. the other team has to be willing to assume that contract. And for that, you have to be willing to take garbage in return. Which to me would be a step in the other direction.
artest would be a great edition to the team since he got so much to offer but the one thing i like about him is that he is very clutch, for example like during the 4th when his team is down, he's like change like into a all or super star level player.
i guess our assets for trade include: Jackson/Francis expiring contracts Luther Head Aaron Brooks (if you've seen enough) 1st & 2nd round draft picks doesn't seem like there's a lot of ammo there. I think it would be foolish to break up any of the other pieces of the team. We just won 22 straight (mostly without Yao). This team has heart and chemistry. Once everyone is healed up in the offseason, we'll be right back there in the West as one of the best. Only this time, I hope we have another scoring threat to take the pressure off T-Mac. He needs to average at least 5 less minutes next year. If Morey signs an impact FA, and we turn our tradeable assets into something we can use, we should be fine for next year.
