you're delusional... if you think thats going to cure all that ails this team..

and even asking for health.. is like asking for the world with this team's injury prone stars..

you must be a carrol dawson admirer.

if you havent' noticed, morey wants to accumulate talent, not trade away pieces as soon as they become trade assets.

that doesn't mean we cant get talent, but trading away our current talent is not the answer unless somehow another team is looking to dump an AMAZING talent.

just because we have a piece to trade doesn't mean we have to immediately trade it away (dawson-esque).

i see morey fine tuning. and thats it. we have a great core. our only needs are backup center, PG - possibly starter or backup (depending upon what the price is), and a backup wing to score.

those are all things we can get WITHOUT TRADING AWAY OUR FUTURE!!! lets get this team healthy. scola and landry are our future.

Keep Scolandry together. Our PF production was huge this year.

We just need our rookies to improve, and shooting will improve (ala brooks)

Alston's trade valyue is sky high now but who on the market is actually a better PG than Alston? I think he is the 3rd most important member to this team right now.

T-Mac will be 30 next year and will be coming off surgery... I say let his contract expire as a Rocket. It's the only way to be major players for another star player in a few years. Yao should still have a few more prime years left at that point. Hopefully Morey's drafts will have had time to pay dividends by then and will fill out the supporting cast.

    Thoughts?

Mike Miller + Calderon; if we can land both and keep TMac and Yao healthy, we got a championship

Artest is too much of a wildcard, i rather we get Mike Miller or Magette or Josh Childress

I would trade Landry and/or Scola, expiring contracts, and 1st round picks for a resigned Elton Brand. Can we somehow get this done? Brand is big enough to also play backup C when Yao is out. We also have our MLE which we can use for another swingman (Perhaps Pietrus?) who can backup TMac so we can preserve him for the playoffs.

This will definitely put us over the edge and out of the first round.

    Imagine this lineup.

    PG - Rafer/Jackson/SF3
    SG - TMac/Pietrus
    SF - Battier/Pietrus
    PF - Brand/Hayes or Landry/Scola
    C - Yao/Brand

The starting 5 will rival any other team in the league. Something drastic has to happen because I don't think the Rockets have enough firepower to compete with the West with the current lineup we have now.

    very true. couldn't agree more.

we'll keep acquiring talent and either get really good or make a garnett like trade in a year or two.

our future is as promising as T-mac and Yao.. their future together is 2 if the trend continues, 3 if all goes well.. taking turns and not always together.. scola and landry's future is one that's not going anywhere without the other two.. or at least two other stars.. the likelihood of landing two future stars of T-mac and Yao caliber..? exactly.. fine tuning is most certaintly... not all we need..

You're absolutely right about what we need!

We have a team that won 22 in a row and finished 55-27! What do we want to trade away half the starting lineup for

We have a couple of obvious weaknesses:
the first being shooters - when Head goes mia (which he does in the playoffs it appears) then we don't have a reliable threat to shoot the ball.
the second being the centre position when Yao is out. It's hard to do, but I think we need to assume that he can't play a full season and act to shore up the roster accordingly.
Then we have the troubled PG spot - but ccjj is spot on the money: which 'better' player is available? Alston takes good care of the ball and is a reasonable defender - shooting is streaky, but at least he's making stops (sometimes!) How do you upgrade without taking backward step at the position? Jose Calderon - but I can't see him being cheap or readily available...
