I've never coached kids before.. But don't you think it's a bad idea to promote the idea that scoring = success ? Maybe focusing on winning is a better idea. Sure, it's hard to explain to a kid that a team win is more important, but maybe there can be a reward after every win. Keep track of how many goals maybe they stopped from going in? You don't want to develop a bunch of ball hogs now, do you? lol Just speculating... Like I said, no experience coaching little ones..
It is not all about scoring it is about playing and hustling and we do get excited for great defensive plays. Really it is all about just playing....and having fun. The kids don't even know the score, but my 4 year old does know how many goals he scores....he keeps track..... As for my philosophy....they are too young to worry about wins and losses, but soon, they will understand....life is full of winners and losers....and the sooner you get started learning how to win and how to lose the better off you are....IMHO. Me...I hate to lose.....hate it..... but can deal with it....if I have to...... DD
