didn't the HEAT all take cuts from their max contracts to be together? LOL Socialist basketball team.
Parsons is not a role player; and Lin (if he keeps playing the way he is) is not a role player either. Garcia is a role player. Beverly and Casspi are role players. DMo is a role player. You can win without having all stars. The Trailblazers of the late 90's and the Sac Kings of the early 2000's were teams with a whole of bunch of semi-stars (ala Parsons and Lin) and no all stars. Portland: Stoudamire, Bonzi Wells, Pippen, Wallace, Sabonis Sac: Bibby, Christie, Stojacavic, Webber, Divacs, Bobby Jackson Granted these teams didn't win any championships however they were both for the record better than the team that did: the Lakers (miracle run, both times). Also consider the 2004 Pistons. Meanwhile our Rockets not only have 2 all stars, but 2 top 10 players in the league! Having a third superstar is not essential. However people think 3 superstars is necessary because that's what the 2007 Celtics had, and today's Heat have; and that it can't be any other way. But that's necessarily true.
Even for teams over the cap, I am pretty sure it's within 150% rule in which Asik + Jones would be enough to acquire LMA in a trade. Not that I would think it will happen...
I cringe every time Parsons dribble drives for the basket. This is one part of game he hadn't improved at all from last season. ICR he turned over twice trying to do that last game and shouldve had another one if it weren't for the lucky bounce.
If properly motivated both Lin and Parsons can create their own shot. You must have missed last year's playoffs where Parsons kept blowing by his man off the dribble and slashing to the basket for score after score; and you also must have missed Linsanity and any other game where Harden wasn't on the lineup card like the San Antonio game where Lin put up 38 points (yeah, all of which were assisted, pffft). Parsons and Lin can create their own shot; they just can't do it as well or as often as the other two.
And you sir are absolutely correct. I just don't think that Morey is looking for a LMA type player. Is there anyone on the roster that depends on the mid ranged shot?
Not sure what the OP is talking about. We just added a third star this summer. His name is Dwight Howard. Dwight joins our two existing stars, James Harden and Omer Asik.
True in any sense. But the Rockets are unfortunate that Howard and Asik are at least on the surface the same player. I truly have no idea how to factor that into the "star" equation.
Fans can't be grateful, we making huge strides, chemistry looks the best it has years, easy top 4 team in the west, super deep bench and we wanna talk about getting rid of players and bringing another star in LOL
I don't see how this is ungrateful. Even Morey himself said this team is not finished product. If you can get better, you get better.
There's a difference between tweaking and reinventing the wheel. LMA would change our whole offensive scheme overnight. These past few games in Asia (and against the Pelicans) showcased a well-oiled offensive machine. That machine was the result of a year's worth of dedication and hard work. Notice the odd man out so far has been Howard. Of course he hasn't been here that long.
This is what Larry Bird said during an interview in Manila, "A lot of players go out and shoot 500 3-pointers and they can't believe when I practice, I never shot 3-pointers. I always thought the mid-range game was the most important part of the game." Not sure if you truly understand what Bird was talking about. I am into advanced stats myself but if the right offer for LMA is on the table, I have no doubt Morey will trade Asik for LMA in a heartbeat.
How would the offensive scheme change overnight? The Rockets only need to give up Asik+pieces to get LMA. If anything, the starting lineup gets even stronger.
Which two were you talking about? And no parsons can't create his own shot. In the playoffs last year where you said that Parsons kept blowing by his man off the dribble. That definitely didn't happen because is FG% was assisted 72% of the time which was slightly lower that his FG% was assisted throughout the regular season 74%. So yeah he definitely can't. I do agree with you that Lin can create his own shot. He was one of the two people I cited in my initial post.
