I thought it was Morey who made an offer to the Grizzlies for the No.2 pick and he wanted Gay as a throw in, which was declined by Wallace.
In his defense, he's looking at players like Ben Gordan getting $11 million/year, Josh Smith getting over $10 million per year, Luol Deng's contract, Monta Ellis' $11 million/year, etc., etc., etc., and saying to himself, I'm at least as valuable as those guys... Which is certainly arguable, even if not ultimately (his Danny Granger comparison) correct. So if he thinks he's getting a tad bit low-balled, and isn't thrilled about the prospect of a career in Memphis anyway (and who would be), he will test the waters this upcoming offseason. Can't really blame him....except for the threat of injury being enough incentive to go ahead and take $50 million. That said, I wouldn't offer him more if I'm the Grizzlies, either, though...hence the stalemate.
I do not know for fact what may or may not have been offered by which team. I do know I was told Heisley was the initiator and the offer started with Gay/Battier. Again. But, uh, no 'stro this time, tho... Did it ever have any legs? Obviously not.
Yeah - sorry - I tried to indicate I was switching back to "current topic" in my reply (ie - no longer discussing your post!) Agreed on most parts!
