I was bored at work (don't you love the day before a holiday) and was looking up some stats on the NBDL web site. I noticed that the leading rebounder was James Thomas (former UT player). Dude is pulling down 18 boards a game. I don't know much about the guy, but it seems like he could come in and fill a void that we have at PF (one that can actually rebound). I also think having half your team consist of PFs would be totally awesome.
Did I miss something. Mo had 10 rebounds last night and kept Webber to 11 points on 3 of a million shooting. We got killed by or perimeter defense and the fact that they had the whole team crashing the boards and we 2 guys crashing the boards. Sorry but Tmac, JJ, and Lue just stunk it up on defense last night.
I think the Rockets may make some minor trades before the deadline just to use our TE, but major moves should come this off-season.
Swift is probably available as well. The Grizz are doing just as badly as the Rockets are and they can't make the same excuses as the Rockets. So there are some young athletic power forwards are out there, the Rockets just have to be willing to take a chance and pay the price. There are struggling young teams in need of veteran leadership and the Rockets have plenty of veterans available.
1. Juwan Howard for K. Thomas 2. Juwan Howard for D. Marshall 3. Juwan Howard+T. Lue for D. Fortson+A. Daniels
I'v jumpped on the bandwagon for trading J. Howard as well. I donno, I really do think he's cursed... Well that and his hands arnt long enough
I dont think thomas or marshall would solve our problems at PF. Both are undersised and will get eaten up by the PFs in the west. as for the third trade, i like it and would do it in a heartbeat but why would the sonics do that trade if they are 10-2 right now?
Anyone who thinks another team will trade a young power forward who can block and rebound is just nuts unless that team is getting back a whole lot. Teams that have young power forwards who can block and rebound usually draft them in the 1st round. The only options for the Rockets in a trade are older vets at the power forward position who can play hard. PJ Brown and Antonio Davis come to mind. Both have ridiculous contracts, and they both play for teams which are in the process of rebuilding. Hornets should be rebuilding. Bulls definitely are rebuilding.
What we need is a power forward that can get out on the perimeter and chase down those long rebounds and lose balls. The ones that Yao can't get to because of his mobility. Old vets like Mourning and Davis are just going to plant himself in the paint. We already have Yao to do that. Yao can handle the paint area. If we can't get a quick athletic 4, then we're better off just sticking with Howard and Taylor.
TYSON CHANDLER is avalibale and would be a nice young, long, athletic powerfoward who would fit well next to Yao. We need someone who is mobile and energetic to compliment our centers. Tyson rebounds well and at 7'1" is a good shot blocker even though his stats are down this year. Last year the Bulls wanted Howard. lets do it
You did know that we used the Rice TE in the TMac-Francis trade, right? http://bbs2.clutchfans.net/showthread.php?s=&threadid=81993&perpage=30&pagenumber=4 I'm not sure what you're point is...???? You don't gain a player like McGrady without depleting some of your depth. Depth is not something that is re-established in the 3 months followng McGrady's acquisition. Further, we can't blame CD or JVG because Brent Barry preferred to sign with the Spurs. As Deuce mentioned, I personally prefer a Swift/Bosh type PF but I have no problem with the current roster. I'm patient. We have a solid core.
We have 2 players - 1 great, 1 good. The remaining bunch of guys would not start on any team outside Charlotte. 1 great player and 1 good player = borderline playoff team. Even factoring chemistry, this team would at best be a 5 seed and is nowhere near having championship talent. Jim Jackson, Mo Taylor, Juwon Howard, Lue, and Mutombo should each be averaging 20 minutes- at most. The remaining players suck. When you make a substantial trade, you do lose depth but you should still retain some semblance of a starting lineup. Im not talking All-Stars or high draft choices but good decent players like Kyle Korver, Marquis Daniels, Tony Parker, Ginobili, Joe Johnson, Primoz Brezac, Carlos Arroyo, Rashard Lewis, Marko Jaric, Bobby Simmons, Jeff McInnis, Chauncey Billups, etc.,etc., In the next 2-3 years, we will have to replace PF, SF, and PG. Assuming JJackson and Taylor are better suited for the bench, How do we fill 3 starting positions in less than 5 years, especially with our record of poor draft choices and inability to pickup sleepers.
I know he's a Knick, but Juwan Howard for Jerome Williams. Or how about Juwan Howard back to his hometown of Chicago for Tyson Chandler. I'm sure Chandler would fit in nicely here knowing that most of his job would be to swallow rebounds. I mean look at Dwight Howard...he's only averging 6 ppg, but close to 11 rpg. Who knows, the bulls might thrown in one of their 5 pgs....Frank Williams?
