I do ascribe to that mostly. I feel this discussion of race is in everyone's face right now and that can only be a good thing for America. Closet bigotry will always exist but that IMO is no longer than norm. I agree the color of Barack's skin is a benefit. I just wish it was Condelleza Rice or Colin Powell. By the way Vernon was always one of my favorite Rockets. I met him twice in bars and contrary to popular opinion I thought he was a pretty nice guy. Amazing how the masses hate him.

Well said. Obama's election can not only change how our country is veiwed around the world but it will change how many minorities view their opportunities in this country. It'll be the first time there'll be a real live example that a person of any race can become the most powerul person in the world. It'll no longer be a theoretical belief. To the original question, I think even racists can read a tax plan. Money may trump racist beliefs for a lot of people, especially casual racists.

It's so true. My sister is a good example. She invites mexican coworkers to her wedding. She says she hates Mexicans and thinks they are stupid and violent. However, her coworkers are different in her eyes.

eh, I really shouldn't have responded to it, but i always get irritated when I read that. Attitudes towards other races and cultures has come a long long way in my lifetime and when folks say that I feel that all that progress I have seen with my own eyes is marginalized. We shouldn't spend all our time looking for racists, they are nothing other than willfully ignorant neanderthals that will hopefully one day die out like the relics they are. I find it far more rewarding looking for ways that we are alike. Call it the old hippy in me, but I feel life is far too short to hate your neighbor.
