The main factor for or against the Lakers is whether Bynum would sign an extension with Orlando. It's basically a no trade clause if he tells the Magic he won't resign with them.

So why would Bynum want to leave the Lakers who just added Nash, to play on a likely lottery team in Orlando? And besides Bynum, what can the Lakers offer? No more draft picks in the near future after the Nash trade, and no cap space to take on bad contracts. No cheap young talent. The Lakers will get the most national media run, but I don't really see them having the assets to make the best offer, even if they are a team that would likely keep Howard if the trade did happen. It's certainly possible, but I don't consider it inevitable at this point unless all the other bidders just take their offers off the table.

Bynum will absolutely re-sign with any team he gets traded to. "There's a bank in every city."

There is a bank in all the cities that would line up to pay him as an unrestricted free agent too. But he gets to choose the bank, and can choose to stay with the LA bank that at least has a shot at contending.

"Bank in every city" implies that he will simply sign where the most money is, aka the team he'll be on when his contract expires. Reports are that he'd be more than willing to sign an extension with Orlando.

I also think LA is getting Dwight (if LA trades Bynum or clippers trade Griffin, it's over). However, if we get him, we stand a really good chance of keeping him. We can offer the most money. While it is true that Dwight might be able to make up the money in endorsements if he goes to other cities, the only cities he can make up the money via endorsements are LA, NY and Chicago. Neither LA team has room for him next year; neither NY team can get him (and we just screwed up Knicks), and Chicago can't get him either (and just for good measure we went after Asik so either we get him or Chicago matches and there will be no way to unload enough to make a max offer). So the only team he can realistically walk to at the end of the year are Dallas and Atlanta. Neither will result in Dwight having additional endorsement. At that point he won't walk away from $25-57m, depending on how you view it.

So keep your fingers crossed that we swing the trade. If we do we will keep him. Unfortunately I really see the Lakers or Clippers trading for him or maybe even Atlanta. Im sure Dwight's agent is trying to get him to LA right now.

I think we have the second best shot at getting him after the Lakers with Bynum. Up until tonight I didn't think LA would include Bynum, now I think it's becoming a real possibility.

That's one interpretation, but I believe the comment was regarding the rumor of being traded, and didnt even discuss resigning. He would get the same money staying in LA, unless you think the Lakers let him walk as a free agent. It was different when Bynum had two years on his contract, and Howard only had one. Especially since the Lakers still had the draft picks they just gave to the Suns. I'm sure the Lakers want Howard, but I don't know that the Magic are that in love with Bynum straight up for Dwight, and I don't know what the Lakers could add to make them change their mind.

ing to convince Buss to move Bynum. I bet they succeed. Bynum will agree because he can be extended and get guaranteed money immediately (I'm sure he too has concerns about his injury) and Orlando would want him as mOre than a rental. Unfortunately I think we are second once again. My only hope is that Lakers want to see how the new team plays and would rather wait til the trade deadline while Orlando wants to get it done before the season starts. However I think LA will do the deal. They'd be stupid not to - dwight would solidify their team during Kobe's last years and then become the alpha dog. Thats better than by um being he alpha dog.

It's possible, and certainly the Lakers are a top contender to pull off the deal. But likewise, Orlando also has to be wary of giving a max contract to Bynum considering his injury history. Would Orlando rather have multiple picks, some young players and/ or expiring contracts, plus possibly shed some of their bad contracts, or basically just Bynum and potentially nothing else sent or received? I don't consider it likely that the rockets make the move, and have mixed feelings on whether I even want them to, over tanking/rebuilding. But I don't think Orlando is as in love with what the Lakers can offer as many fans think.

So basically, the Lakers will now have Dwight Howard and Steve Nash handed to them in exchange for Andrew Bynum and some low draft picks?? Fantastic. Wake me up in 5 years when there's a point to being a fan of a team not in LA or Miami.

I think it's become pretty apparent that Orlando has their sights set on Bynum. I get the feeling that it's LA mulling over their choice.

I wouldn't mind this. This would be the final straw that will finally make Les decide to rebuild. To me it's win-win. We either get Dwight Howard. Or we get to truly rebuild properly with a bunch of kids I really like. The past few days when we passed on Dragic and traded Lowry suggest we could actually suck should a trade not work out.

Based on what? As of two days ago, the Magic had no contact with Bynum or his agent, which would be necessary for the contract extension talks that would be a prerequisite to even seriously considering that deal according to this article. http://articles.orlandosentinel.com...20120703_1_brooklyn-nets-magic-nets-nets-deal

Granted a lot can change in two days, but it's pretty hard to believe the Lakers would even have to think for a second about whether to trade Bynum for Howard if they didn't have to give up anything else of significance, and it's hard to imagine what else the Lakers could offer that the Magic would want.

The only thing that makes me think we have any shot is that we can now take back bad Orlando contracts. Hedo is owed $12M in 2013/2014 and Richardson has $6M that year and the next. You think Les is willing to bite the bullet on one of those contracts? We need players to surround Howard with anyway.

Orlando is going to wait until the trade deadline before deciding - at least that is what I'd do as a GM. They keep hoping that he'll change his mind and he might. Really if you think he'll stay here on a much worse team, why wouldn't he stay there? Also, if I'm an Orlando GM and you have a bunch of young players (3 1st round picks and a Euro) for me to choose from then I'd like 1/2 a season to see who looks worth my while or are these just a bunch of busts in the making. Time is on the Orlando GM's side.

So just when we are starting to like the player(s), Morey and his DH fetish ships off the best of the young players. You better hope he's right or if you think we're going to look bad at the beginning of this season...wait until 2013 starts.
