Last I checked the USA won gold last year. When was the last time MEX got gold in soccer....and any other major sport they play? btw....I'm not agreeing with leeroy's statements about MEX needing to give up soccer. That's just asinine. But you saying the USA should give up basketball as a come back is down right stupid too.
In 2005. btw... this is the only time a concacaf team has made a world cup final on any level. As noted above, they won.
As soon as Mexico dominates the US for over a decade (like the way US has dominated Mexico soccer for over a decade) then I will ask the US to give up those sports.
My bad, wrong name....but calm down about it. See, I didn't even remember about that win. U-17? Well, i'll leave it at this. It was a good game, Mexico had a number of chances but couldn't convert. Then 1 guy had to go and cleat our goalie....which pretty much took away any chance MEX had. I look forward to the game in MEX.
Nope, I'm looking forward to the game. Mex is much better in MEX than in the US. That's obvious. Should be a fun game.
no i'm talking about futbol only. what fifa final win does the usa have? toutable or untoutable? I am willing to acknowledge that the usa has a strangle hold on mexico right now, especially on us soil. but don't let those good feelings turn myopic and forget your place in the futbol world. at this time you can claim to be the best team in concacaf nothing more. let's see where everything stands after this summers regional championship and wcq's. let's see how the usa does this summer in the confeds cup. last confeds cup in 2005 mexico finished 4th place after losing to argentina on penalties (5-6) in the semi-final then losing to germany in the 3rd place match 4-3 in extra time. in 2006 mexico qualified for the round of 16 in the world cup only to lose the most heartbreaking lost in my lifetime to argentina in extra time 2-1 on a most magical chested volley. usa failed to get out of their group. last copa america 2007 (mexico finished 3rd behind argentina and brazil) was not a bright spot in the history of usa futbol. you finished dead last! i hope they do well, i always root for concacaf as it helps the regions statistically for possible seeding and slots in 2007 usa defeated mexico in the gold cup final. mexico going through a coaching change post 2006 world cup has definatley struggled to find it's identity the last 2 years. usa is definately on the up and up. so that is the 4 years or so not the last 10. one can make the argument that mexico has struggled post lavolpe era(Feb07). one can also argue that mexico has struggled against the usa the last 10 years or so. but no one can make the argument that mexico has been struggling the last 10 years, far from it.
see my previous post. i'll take the last 20 years of mexico futbol history over the last 20 years of usa futbol.
well, usa only got good at soccer since 2002 USA was the last place in the 98 world cup. Before 2000, the record of US vs Mexico, was 6 wins, 27 losses, and 8 draws. In 1999, Mexico won the Confederations Cup beating Brazil, with all of their stars, beating US in the semifinals. So, I prefer Mexico football moments, than US soccer moments.
leroy420... LOL... ok, that WAS sort of silly... david_rocket, Chucho wasn't named FULL TIME COACH, he was just "interim" while they got another coach. Let me start with this: Over a decade, huh? Now, that, to me, just seems like a talking-out-of-your-ass statement. We'll start a tad before 1999, February of 1998, since you said "over a decade." Let's see: Feb 15, 1998 Memorial Coliseum, Los Angeles, California 1998 CONCACF Gold Cup final Flag of Mexico Mexico 1–0 Mar 13, 1999 Qualcomm Stadium, San Diego, California 1999 U.S. Cup Mexico 2–1 Aug 1, 1999 Estadio Azteca, Mexico City 1999 FIFA Confederations Cup semifinal Mexico 1–0 aet (0–0) Jun 11, 2000 Giants Stadium, East Rutherford, New Jersey 2000 U.S. Cup United States 3–0 Oct 25, 2000 Memorial Coliseum, Los Angeles, California Friendly Flag of the United States United States 2–0 Feb 28, 2001 Columbus Crew Stadium, Columbus, Ohio 2002 FIFA World Cup qualifier United States 2–0 Jul 1, 2001 Estadio Azteca, Mexico City 2002 FIFA World Cup qualifier Mexico 1–0 Apr 3, 2002 INVESCO Field at Mile High, Denver, Colorado Friendly Flag of the United States United States 1–0 Jun 17, 2002 Jeonju World Cup Stadium, Jeonju, South Korea 2002 FIFA World Cup Round of 16 United States 2–0 May 8, 2003 Reliant Stadium, Houston, Texas Friendly 0–0 Apr 28, 2004 Cotton Bowl, Dallas, Texas Friendly Flag of the United States United States 1–0 Mar 25, 2005 Estadio Azteca, Mexico City 2006 FIFA World Cup qualifier Mexico 2–1 Sep 3, 2005 Columbus Crew Stadium, Columbus, Ohio 2006 FIFA World Cup qualifier United States 2–0 Feb 7, 2007 University of Phoenix Stadium, Glendale, Arizona Friendly United States 2–0 Jun 24, 2007 Soldier Field, Chicago, Illinois 2007 CONCACAF Gold Cup final Flag of the United States United States 2–1 Feb 6, 2008 Reliant Stadium, Houston, Texas Friendly 2–2 Feb 11, 2009 Columbus Crew Stadium, Columbus, Ohio 2010 FIFA World Cup qualifier United States 2–0 I don't know about you, sir, but I consider my team tying in YOUR HOME a win for me. That doesn't sound like a DOMINATION to me. You better check yourself BEFORE you wreck yourself, sir. Have the U.S. beat Mexico in Mexico? Can you even say that? He never specified what age or what team. His assumption is that MEXICO never won anything, which is another out-of-his-ass statement. EDIT: Already Dos Santos, Villaluz, Vela and Arce (who were part of that U-17 championship team) have played for the national major team. So why does the U.S. compete in those tournaments also, if they don't really count? Like always, and of course, EXCEPT WHEN PLAYING MEXICO, the U.S. will get to the World Cup and fall flat on their face.
The US made the 2nd round in 1994 as well. I'm not arguing Mexico accomplishments vs the US, but the major improvement has been happening since 1990. 1998 was a fluke due to horrible coaching (a 3-6-1? are you f***ing serious, Steve Sampson?).
Once again, other than Columbus (which might be 50/50), Mexico always has more fan support than the US, no matter where the match is played. That takes away any "home field" advantage the US may have by playing in places like Houston or LA, which are ridiculously pro-Mexico.
