Sign of a bad coach, Uprising. I don't want him leading my team, but what can a Mexican national in another country do?
I lived with two mexicans during college so I'm a fan of both USA & Mexico squads. But when going head-to-head, I have to root for USA. That being said, I haven't been able to follow the Mexican team very much, not since the last world cup. Who are their new up and coming players? The team looks to have made a major overhaul of players.
Here's an article about Brian Ching and what he brings to the team. http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/2009/writers/jonah_freedman/02/10/us.mexico.preview/index.html
Another question: shouldn't the U.S. team be practicing in shorts and short sleeves? What do you all think? I know it's for the players' safety, but... wouldn't you want to be wearing what you would be wearing during the actual game? I know most teams have their practice jerseys, warm-ups, sweaters, etc., but don't you think it will be against their favor to train all cuddled up? pgsxdjp, the newer star players amongst the Mexican team are: Neri Castillo (eligible for 4 countries until last year), Andres Guardado (not playing tonight), Giovanni Dos Santos (Brazilian parents, won Under 17 cup with Mexico), Carlos Vela (not playing, won the cup with Mexico along Dos Santos)and Guillermo Ochoa (might start tonight). The entire roster is at http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mexico_national_football_team. Thanks for the support ! Let me ask you other dudes, most of you rooting for the Barras y las Estrellas, another question: I root for the U.S. when not playing Mexico. Would you root for Mexico when not playing the U.S.?
I remember i was in NYC for WC2006. I was maybe one of the few rooting for Mexico at some random bar. Even wore my Mexico AF1s and green tee. Sadly, Maxi Rodriguez hit an AMAZING shot. USA and Mexico are my teams. Sure I'll be rooting USA tonight, but ultimately I want to see both teams playing well in preparation for WC2010.
I thought you meant show you who we should watch. You're right about Sven. STFU and show somebody why Mexico shouldn't fire you tomorrow.
If I moved to Mexico I would probably follow the team more, but I still couldn't see myself rooting for them. As it is, following Mexican soccer, both the national team and league, is tough if you don't speak Spanish since there is little English press about them.
No, not anymore. I have family from Mexico who won't root for the US even if they aren't playing Mexico. And I know that a majority of Mexicanos who live here feel the same way.
Well, I root for the U.S. if not playing Mexico. It's because I live here and I want the rest of the FIFA teams to respect LA CONCACAF... but it is more for RESPECT the U.S. has gained by beating my team the last few times, but it's also bittersweet to know that the games are played only in the U.S. as friendlies (c'mon, now, make the host country close to EVEN, at least)... I know why... they get paid more. Still, I get PISSED at the fact that the U.S. only brings it against MEXICO , but not against other teams. Don't get me wrong, I hated the rout by the Czechs in 2006 and the early exit, and that added more to the fire. Most Mexicans will tell you they hate the U.S. because... nothing. They give no reason. ONE THING IS CERTAIN, they DO bring it against MEXICO and it makes the rivalry even better. DrLudicrous, maybe it is because I've infiltrated your workforce and regular-Joe type places (ClutchFans.net) assimilating, but I am 99.9% Mexican (.1% is that I speak English). Perhaps if more people from the U.S. spoke Spanish and English, like I do, they would root for both if not playing each other. Yes, speaking Spanish helps me follow both leagues. I hardly follow anymore for my family and work duties. I still don't care how you get seeded in the big dance. You bring it against WHOMEVER you face, not only against Mexico. Good showing against Portugal in 2002 didn't get them the respect [the U.S.] deserved. Good luck to all tonight. R. Marquez and O. Sanchez shouldn't be playing tonight. EDIT: FIFA released its rankings for FEBRUARY 11th, 2009... osama! osama! osama! Oh... the game is going to be played in columbus, nevermind. obama!obama! obama! =)
The US line-up as expected: --------------------Ching-------------------- Beasley----------Donovan--------Dempsey ------------Bradley------Kljestan----------- Pearce----Bocanegra---Onyewu---Hejduk -------------------Howard--------------------
Still 1-0 USA! MEX just got a player ejected. He jumped into our goalie not even trying to get the ball, just wanted to cause a collision with the Howard. Dude wasn't even looking at the ball. Not a single yellow card tonight, then BAM...red card.
