After the first two games, I was thinking this year's playoffs could have been when Melo stepped it up near their level. We'll see. He's gotta be feeling bad about last night.
did they elbow people in the throat? did they elbow/knee classy players (battier) when he was on the ground? did they flail their arms wildly after a shot and "accidentally" slap the crap out of the defender's face, not once, but several times? did they put their shoulder down and hit Kenyon Martin during a dead ball? after you realize that the answer to every single one of the questions above is "NO", you'll quickly understand why I hate Kobe's guts but I respect Bird and Jordan despite their r****ded unnecessary antics..
Except for the fact that you're wrong and they did do those things. The game is just under a much bigger microscope today then it was back then. Especially for star players now. Most stars or players that are playing this far into the playoffs will dish out little cheapshots, etc. Its about doing whatever it takes to win. Do you hate Dwight Howard for all the elbows and cheapshots he's been dishing out? Do you hate most of the Nuggets for giving shoves and cheapshots to any Laker that enters the paint? Or are you just a blind hater who actually thinks hes smarter then everyone else and that you're the only one that sees Kobes cheapshots? We all see them, the whole world does, but the game can get ugly when the stakes are high and anyone who thinks its just Kobe that takes cheapshots is mentally handicapped.
MJ was beat down during the 90's... anyone who watched knew that. Just because someone touched him, didn't mean it was a foul. (lebron)
True. This just brings up how sad the officiating is in the NBA. Sometimes a guy can get completely ridden on a drive and other times the slightest bump gets a whistle. Other then Lebron, Paul Pierce comes to mind as being able to just run into someone and get a whistle. What I hate is that they sell the call so much but the officials still take the bait. I swear Pierce will just fling his head back and act like he got hit by a truck and then boom. Free throws. One can only hope someday Stern will do something to try and get more consistant officiating.
These 2 teams are really close. But the Lakers look like they have more bites when the game is close. Another inbound play failure by the Nuggets, that's epic fail. How about Melo to inbound the ball and get it back?
Seriously... George Karl is horrible at inbound plays. People thought Jeff was bad because he had point guards (Andre Barret (SP?)) inbound the ball... (Hell, even Adelman does it.) This is the second time I remember where the ball was stolen from a big man pass. Anyone remember the Rasheed Wallace play? Camby was the inbounder, passed it... Prince tipped... and then... <object width="425" height="344"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/pXnNZjM9BRc&hl=en&fs=1"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/pXnNZjM9BRc&hl=en&fs=1" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="425" height="344"></embed></object> I wonder if Billups had this game in mind after seeing Ariza getting the ball...
It's funny. K-Mart & G Karl complained too many 3 ptrs from the Nuggets. As a matter the fact, the Nuggets have always played this way. The difference between good offense and bad offense for the Nuggets is whether the shots are going in.
Dude how long have you been watching basketball? Back in the 80s rough play was allowed. All the stuff you mentioned would hardly ever be called as a foul. Flopping didnt exist and even when McHale clotheslined Rambis that was only a regular foul. Jordan, Bird, Barkley, Miller, Stockton etc... they all were dirty players by your standards.
oh one more thing... it's funny that any team that has mutombo as a player can criticize another team's player for being dirty. That's like a pot calling the kettle black.
And that's---- why Van Gundy is one of the best commentators ever. Who else would reference Dino Rajda as an example of a crafty player (along with Detlef Schrempf)? Classic.
OK, you gonna criticize Mutombo on this board? Well, feel free to shut up any time, thank ya very much.
All the comparisons of anthony with Wade or Lebron should stop Dude has started the game 0-7, I don't ever remember any of the Elite players shooting like that, and half the drives he had towards the rim would be finished by Lebron.
