Okay? That's should say a lot about the coaching that they got there to begin with. They were also missing Bogdanivich too. Look at the last 3 games of those series. Murray had 42, Murray then had 50. Jokic then had 30 in the last game. Mitchell had 22. So he very obviously wasnt the best player those last three games right? When you have a top 10 player in the league, a true superstar, and the best player on the floor(Jokic) and Jamal Murray averaging like 40 PPG its still hard to close out. No matter what you say. There was a talent gap there. Does no one clown the Jazz? People have always said this about Gobert and Quin. But Quin has gotten amazing results despite not having a true superstar on the roster. But name me a coach who is going to bench their best or second best player for long stretches in a playoff game? Im asking you will a coach bench his second best player? Should the Rockets have benched Westbrook last year? He was what allowed Harden doubles? He was also breaking plays and killing us in game 6 of the OKC series? The answer is no because he's your second best, star player. Which is what Gobert is on that team. He's an all star, DPOY. No matter what you say, he is the second star on that team. If you are an all star on your team than you automatically have that? What do you mean? You think lowly of Gobert doesnt mean a coach in Quin's position would. How many coaches are going to bench their second best player, Im gonna ask you again. And you guys are ignoring the fact that NO ONE on the Jazz could contain the perimeter. No one. They were letting dudes blow by them like it was nothing.
It's not enough to be Man. You need to be Mann! Well, congrats to the Clippers for reaching the conference finals for the first time in franchise 50+ years history.
What, you thought Draymond spoke Japanese? Draymond is petty and dirty, but he never struck me as being stupid. He seems like a fairly intelligent guy.
Gobert’s Contract is the Worst in the NBA & perhaps in league history. The Jazz are overpaying by $25 million a year. You never give max money to a guy that can’t score and can’t exploit a mismatch. Especially one that can be exploited as a mismatch. The Jazz really effed up bad! And Quinn Snyder should be fired yesterday. He should have benched Gobert when they cut that 25 point lead to 15.
he was the best player in that series, and the Jazz had several other guys playing really well…please stop acting like they were so woefully outmatched by Denver, they weren’t Amazing results? Yeah, in the regular season only. In the playoffs? Not at all. All he’s done is blow 3-1 leads and lose a 25 point lead to a Clippers team missing Kawhi. Pop would do so without hesitation. I bet Nick Nurse wouldn’t have Gobert out there for 42 minutes hemorrhaging points. Coaches that make adjustments would’ve made the most glaring and obvious one. U talk as if sitting Gobert on the bench because he’s getting targeted is like benching Lebron or KD… Ty Lue wouldn’t leave him out there for so long to give up three after three so now barely All-Star caliber Gobert has superstar/franchise player clout that there’s no way u could leave someone like him on the bench when he’s getting targeted…the Clippers shot 72% in the paint last night, so Gobert had no impact there, and he was giving up wide open three after wide open three, but there’s just no way u couldn’t leave Gobert out there for 42 minutes, he just has that much clout…lol, aight man, u got it
That's why it's an adjustment. They were getting killed primarily by 3 point shooting so maybe defend the 3. If they start killing you in the paint then you can prioritize rim protection for a bit. You don't have to choose 1 at the beginning of the game and stick to that the whole time but apparently Quinn didn't get the message. Change your strategy as the game develops.
But he wasnt actually the best player, that would be Jokic. Even if you accept that he was the best player, you would have to accept that Murray and Jokic were the next best players. Not many people go that far in the playoffs without a true superstar on their roster. Its an accomplishment to get to those positions in the first place. I could be a reductionist and say this about Lue too, all he's done prior to tonight is get carried by Lebron, Paul George, Kawhi and Reggie Jackson lmao. Gobert would never be the second best player on any of their teams(Pop, Nurse, whoever). And you act like he's Rondo or some **** where you can just bench him like that. Ty Lue would never put himself to coach a team with that talent level. He's the second highest paid player on the team coming off of his 3rd DPOY, I would imagine you would have something to where your coach doesnt up and bench you like that. Im not saying Quin shoulndt have pulled, Im only telling you that a lot of coaches wouldnt pull Gobert.
None of their perimeter guys could hold them. It would have been a layup line. You bet on the variance of the three instead of a layup line which you have higher chance of losing. He bet on the higher percentage and lost. He should have just taken Gobert out, there was no adjustment to keeping him on the floor. But even if he was gone, their perimeter players coulndt contain drives from Reggie Jackson, Terrance Mann, and Pat Beverly lol.
Philly and Utah seem to be in the same situation Can you win with players like Simmons and Gobert being your 2nd star? I think there still some hope out there for simmons but this isnt the first time that the gobert/mitchell pairing has failed. There is like no upside to utah. They are stuck with that fat gobert contract and not much else of value.
If they are smart, they will ship out Gobert this summer before he loses anymore value. There will be a team out there willing to trade for him.
Donavon Mitchell was the best player in that series averaging 36, 5, and 5 on insane efficiency…Jokic was not better than him in that series It’s an accomplishment to lose a 3-1 lead and then lose a 25 point lead to a team you’re clearly better than after they lose Kawhi? He made the 2nd round and then got embarrassed, and that’s supposed to deserve major props? All Lue has done is win 2 straight series down 2-0, the latest with Kawhi missing 2 games and counting. I’m sure u thought the Clippers were gonna head down to Utah and get a win without Kawhi u asked who would send his ass to the bench, and I gave u names…if Pop, Nurse, or Lue were coaching this exact Utah team, Gobert would not have been on the floor to get used and abused all game…the coaches who refuse to make any adjustments would never pull Gobert I’m not acting like Gobert is Rondo, you’re acting like Gobert is some superstar or franchise player who has some major clout to where he couldn’t possibly get benched when he’s clearly getting taken advantage of…like this dude is Bron or KD or something
Haven't really combed through the "It's all Rudy's fault!" train of thought, but imo, this loss can't really be placed on Rudy. He's just not suited for defending perimeter players. Period. People can rag on him all they want about how he's supposed to be DPoY, but asking him to consistently lumber out of the paint to defend players that can hit 3s, just hurts the entire team. Hurts the Jazz because Gobert will get blown by if the 3p shooter decided to then penetrate against an advancing Gobert. Hurts the Jazz because Gobert coming out of the paint means there's no shot blocking presence for this possession now, and Gobert can't exactly leave his man to come back into the paint. Saying it's Gobert's fault that he didn't defend better really takes the rightful blame off Snyder. Dude should have benched Gobert when the Clippers showed life. But either he was too stubborn or Gobert was too stubborn. Guess they can both be stubborn in cancun.
I went back today to look at the box score. It's kinda crazy. Jazz shot their 44 3pt attempts, which is a lot but normal by their standards. They shot it at 47.7% clip , which on any other day would be great. They still lost. Clippers at 39 3pt attempts at 51.3%.
The volume 3pt shooting that is employed by almost all NBA teams has brought a huge variant to the game. I think that (together with a higher pace) is a major reason why there are so many blowouts now. On any given night, one team can literally bury the opponent with hot 3pt shooting... unless the other team put the dirt back on you with even hotter 3pt shooting like what happened last night. And if your shooting is cold, you can get buried quickly too.
