Give some credits to US's defence, that was the biggest
reason Ming couldn't get more ball down low,He played
well tonight, facing the elite US NBA team with big Ben and
    J. O'nile who wroked very hard tonigh. I am proud of Ming,
    Ming is real.

Oh shoot, there is a China-US news conference on NBATV! I just tuned in.

Karl on Ming: "Surprisingly impressive....kid could be very good..Rockets should be very happy."

Also he said that Ming and Bateer should be a force in international play. Just need some guards.

On another note, the Chinese translator says "um" about every other word. Its pretty funny. "Um..in order to...um..pass the ball...um..to him...um...jkfhsdjsdfk...um..."

There were times where Ming was wide open and guards passed up on passing him the ball. In fact there was one play I saw where Ming was open on the right block, and guard drove right in his direction, looked at him, and then cut left into a crowd of 2 or 3 U.S. players and turned the ball over. That's just inexcusable. Ming is the star you get him the ball. Batere is a force, you get him the ball.

I wish the media would get their facts straight on how much Yao Ming weighs. At the draft they said he was 296 lbs, Jeff says the Rockets weighed him at close to 300 lbs, nba.com lists him at 296 lbs. Tonight they kept saying he was around 250 lbs. A report I read last night from the World Basketball Championships website said he was around 250 lbs.

50 lbs. is a big difference. How much does Yao really weigh and why is their such a huge difference in what is being reported?

The US defense was good, but not great. NBA caliber guards could have got the ball to Ming against the defense the US played tonight. For example, there were several instances when a good lob pass would have given Ming a layup or foul.

I suppose Bateer did a good job.His upper body is much stronger than Yao's.What a shame that Wang miss the Champion!!The Chinese would have done better with Wang.

Look at the angle of Yao's ankle, that's something guards on penetration form. Yao can drive and slash to the basket. I wanna see him drive past Shaq!

I believe that Yao is around 250lbs, remember Sabonis? This giant center weighs merely a little over 300lbs, I dont see Yao is that big....yet

I like his touch and his presence in da middle!:) I CAN'T wait till the season start ( my wife is next 2 me rollin' her eyes and sighing )! Anyway, some of the fouls were cheap ones and it took his agressiveness away:confused: . The guards 4 china did well in da beginning but reverted back 2 their pathetic selves, they were afraid 2 throw da ball 2 yMING! I was like.....lub da ball u clowns the guy is freakin' tall!!! Anyway, yMING wit Steve + Cat + Griff= lots of WINS!!!;)

This was the first time I got to see Ming on TV.He is intriguing, runs the floor smoothly and shoots the ball confidently and is a fine passer and could have gotten a lot more points if he hadn't gotten in foul trouble. His low post work needs a lot of improvement but he can get better with his footwork with training. He was obviously hesistant to hit the boards because of foul trouble but once he gets stronger and learns how to box out he will be a good rebounder. His arms maybe be a little short but he can alter a lot of shots just by raising them because of his height.
His main weakness today was on defense once the US players got around the basket as he didn't move his feet well.I don't think he is particularly quick laterally but he can improve his defense once his footwork gets better.
His lack of physical strength in his upper body obviously causes him a lot of problems, but he wasn't intimidated when Wallace tried to get physical with him and that is a good sign.
The Rockets made the right choice by taking him. Once he gets more experience and learns the NBA game he is going to be a dangerous opponent to play against.

I think the reason is that the WBC's got outdated info on Yao and the lazy media spread it out. Bradley is 260 lbs, Yao is at the same height and his huge legs have at 30 lbs over Bradley's toothpicks. I haven't seen Bradley backing Antonio Davis in either. Must be a mistake on the WBC's part.

Uhh....ok....right. (how was that in agreement with me?)

BTW, if anyone didn't see it, I posted some news conference notes in my earlier post. I edited it, so you may not have noticed it.

I counted at least 3-4 times when Yao set a pick and rolled to the basket wide open. No pass. With Stevie pulling the trigger we would have seen monster slams off the alley oop.

With the supporting cast of the Rockets able to take some of the heat off of him, Yao will wreak havoc offensively and defensively. He shut down the lane by his mere presence. They did not even attempt to go in until late in the game when he had to back off due to fouls.

He needs to lose the bracelet. Anyone else notice him messing with it all game long? Seemed like a distraction.

I saw him messing with his arm also. I was wondering if he had gotten injured at all the way he kept touching his arm.

Bateer is impressive. His spin and hook is unstoppable..But Nuggets are going to fire him. Poor guy.

China PG #4 is an S hole. He can creat nothing but TO and Missed shots.

Didn't see much Yao Ming. He needs to move more actively to get the ball ,expand his defense range, and attract the audience's and camera's attension..

I said 'SIGN BATEER'. He can bang. He is physical. He has offense. And he's not going to be expensive!!!!!!!! Last time I heard Denver may not want him back!!!

I skipped from page two to the last page so someone probably mentioned this already but Marv said Ming got his thumb smacked by someone trying to steal the ball, and it was very painful.

Considering Denver's roster and how he has been playing, the Nugz will want him back. If they don't, Bateer might be a nice pickup for the Rocks. Trading Collier and K.T. for draft choices or a 2-guard (although I still have faith in Oscar) might be a solution.
