Nuggets raped the Pistons on that AI/Billups trade. AI is only a regular season star. Billups is a playoff star. The whole team has got a little playoff swagger. You can see it in the way they play.

I thought the Nuggets would get better, but I didn't think it would be a big difference maker. Billups still has it,he is a real champion.

Although old and maybe posted before, I feel it's appropriate for this time.

I hope to see Nuggets4 on the board. He is a terrific guy, and one of the best posters on the BBS.

Coming into this season, I thought the Nuggets were in for a down year. Chauncey made the difference.

I thought they would be in a down year because they lost Camby and Najera.

I think AI is unlucky. In the 1st season he came to Denver, Melo and some other nuggets players were suspended. Thus, they got No. 7 seed, and played the spurs in the 1st round. The spurs won the title that year. In fact, the nuggets played really well in the last month of the regular season.

The last season, there were some injuries. The nuggets got the 8th seed, and played the lakers in the 1st round.

Actually, the biggest reason for the nuggets to be able to play in the WCF this season is their health! The players are healthy this season, and they got the no. 2 seed. Of course, I don't mean to deny Billups' effect. I think he is the 2nd biggest reason, but not the 1st and the most important reason.

Forget it. AI didn't mix with Melo and George Karl. Dumping him for Chauncey is far and away reason #1 the Nuggets have done so well. AI had a negative effect on their team just like he did on the Pistons. There is no denying that. The AI/Billups trade will be talked about for years and years.

Billups is good, but now he is overrated! The DEN/DET situation is more complicated than AI/Billups.

Yes, the DEN/DET situations are more complicated than AI/Billups, but without Billups the Nuggets wouldn't be sniffing the WCFs. I think you underestimate team chemistry, which is the primary reason the Nuggets are succeeding.

You can call Billups overrated all you want, but it's hard to overrate dropping 22/4/7 in the playoffs while shooting 50% (54% from long-range) and being a steady hand on the floor and in the lockerroom. Billups' presence has allowed George Karl to be less of his normal jerk-self to the players and he can actually focus on coaching Xs & Os instead of playing mind-games. I've never liked him but I don't deny he knows his stuff. With Billups on the team setting the example for doing what the coach says, Melo and the others have followed. They no longer have to deal with AI worrying more about pecking order than winning (ask the Pistons about that one).

Shaud, losing Camby & Najera for nothing, Kleiza's diminished production/efficiency were more than made up by the AI/Billups trade and adding Birdman.
