Our disappointments pale in comparison to what they have been through in last couple of years.

so the ref can call the shooting foul? the problem wasn't the defender he made the foul the problem was the ref.

durvasa, no doubt Wright made a mistake by not continuing to play. But that doesn't change the fact the referee made a disgraceful game-changing mistake in the waning seconds. Wright's error does NOTHING to absolve the ref here.

The story of this game is a blown call and it should be.

Blown call or not, Antoine Wright is indefensible in this matter. You can't just give up on a play because you expect a whistle. His job was to SECURE the foul. Hell, bear hug him if need be. The two worst case scenarios for the Mavericks in that situation: foul the jump shooter or give up an open look. Wright failed miserably with the latter.

Antoine Wright's last sec foul was too weak. If you want to foul at last sec, you should learn it from Rondo - give a round house swing in the direction of the ball to deck Melo on the floor. At most you give up 2 FTs, no 3 pointer, but that's for sure a personal foul, since as the league said, you make a basketball play. As long as you are not Ron Artest, it's okay.

I don't think I could blame him. A reason why some coaches don't foul is the fact a player can shoot as soon as he foul. Refs can call it a shooting foul, which would have given Carmelo Anthony 3 free throws. Now at the actual video, it was after 1 second that Wright fouls when Carmelo shot the ball. If Wright held on to Anthony, I'm sure as soon as Anthony heard the whistle, he'd just threw the ball up.

Anthony did the right thing by giving an intentional foul then backing away before a possible continuous foul.

I heard somewhere else that the last second carmelo shot going in was the difference between the under and the over

That combined with the unusually high number of fouls called during the game

My mavs buddy thinks they got donaghy'd

Maybe you're right. But both teams really fouled hard. the Nuggets have been physical in the series and the Mavs want to pay back. total 89 FTs.

Even Melo's 3 ptr was the difference between the under and over, Melo still needed to hit the shot.

In the end, that was a WEAK foul. I can definately see how the refs didn't call it. Usually, an intentional foul is just that...it looks INTENTIONAL. You grab the guy right away. You don't "slightly" bump him.

    Anyway......KARMA'S A B!TCH

I watched the replay, and you're right. Wright stuck out his arm, clearly trying to commit the foul, and the ref who was right there blew it. I guess that ref momentarily forgot what the game situation was and that Dallas wanted to foul. Unacceptable officiating, especially in the playoffs.

What make it worse is that the same referee Mark Wunderlich who blew the Derek Fisher's foul last playoffs between Lakers and Spurs is involved.

Seriously, the league should look real hard into the quality of some of its referees. Referees like Joey Crawford who let his emotions to refereeing the game should be tossed!

I seem to remember all of CF.net getting irate at a ref who anticipated a foul call against the Mavs in the playoffs.

Once again, the referees are the story. Welcome to the NBA.

The teams combined to shoot 89 FREAKING FREE THROWS!!!! 89!!!!!!! Denver averaged about one foul called against them per minute, basically.

Then that no-call at the end of the game.

    Great, fellas. Nice work.

I know this is cold hearted and I should feel guilty (but I don't), I really enjoyed watching the Mavs go down in flames. One minute Jason Terry is beating his chest and Howard's buck teeth are on full display, the next minute they are losers screaming at the refs. The Cuban meltdown was priceless. Next to winning the Portland series and the first game of the LA series, this was my basketball highlight of the year. :)
